Application

Complete the table below by providing the function of the different parts of the facilities
and equipment of the Basketball game.

PARTS FUNCTIONS
1. Sideline Boundary The sidelines serve as boundaries as well
as baselines that indicate to the players
and watchers, the inside and the outside
of the basketball court.
2. Center Circle The center circle is used to start the
game and other jump ball situations in a
basketball game.
3. Shaded Area The shaded area in the basketball court is
the area where physicalities during the
game take place. It is where the free
throw lane is located and it is also an
area in the court where a high percentage
of shots can be taken.
4. Three-Point Line The three-point line is the line within the
court that is shaped like an arc, which
separates the two-point area from the
thee-point area in scoring a basket.
5. Midcourt Line The midcourt line is used as an indicator
of the division of the two sides of the
court and it is also used to identify
backcourt violations.
6. Basket The basket is made up of the backboard,
rim, and net. Its function is to act as the
goal for the players in order to score
points according to where they shot the
ball from.
7. Backboard The backboard is part of the basket and it
helps give better rebound to the ball when
the players shoot for a score.
8. Shot Clock The shot clock serves as a countdown
timer that provides 24-35 seconds for
each team to possess the ball before
attempting to score.
9. Net The net is also part of the basket that
serves as a safety measure whenever the
ball is shot inside the loop. With the net,
the ball that passes through the circle fall
to the ground in another direction or
person
10. Posts The posts serve as a stand for the basket
– backboard, net, and rim, and is
approximately 10 feet (3 meters) from the
ground.
