Types of Solar Panels

Most common types of domestic solar panels:

● Monocrystalline panels
○ Made of one piece of silicon and is the most efficient type of solar panel on the market.
● Polycrystalline panels
○ Made by melting several pieces of silicon together and less efficient than monocrystalline
panels.
● Thin-film solar panels.
○ Made with silicon, cadmium, or copper.
○ Made by placing films of PV material onto a substrate and is the least efficient type of panel.
Roof Space Requirements

Solar Panel Type Required Surface area for 1kWp

Monocrystalline 6-9m2

Polycrystalline 7-10m2

Thin Film Copper 9-17m2

Thin Film Cadmium 9-17m2

Thin Film Silicon 8.5-15m2

● Generated 15,876 kWh during first year.
● 30% consumption during weekdays
(increases significantly during weekends).
Remaining 70% fed to the grid.
Solar PV Installations in the Philippines

22.05 kWp Commercial/Office building

installation, Quezon City
● Consists of 105 210 Wp polycrystalline
modules.
● South facing design.
● Used to produce supplementary power to
the entire building.
● Expected to generate 31,750 kWh during
its first year.
● Expected to utilize 71% of produced power
while 29% will be fed to the grid.
Micro-Wind Turbine
Micro Wind Generation

● Wind turbine system that generates power less than or equal to

100kW.
● For residential use.
● Can be vertical or horizontal axis wind turbine.

● Inverter
● Charge Controller
● Battery Storage System
● Electricity Meter
● Electrical Disconnect Switch
How Small Wind System works

● Wind turbines convert the kinetic energy in wind into clean electricity.
When the wind spins the wind turbine's blades, a rotor captures the
kinetic energy of the wind and converts it into rotary motion to drive
the generator
Small Scale Wind Power in the Philippines
