Activity 3: Experience Me!

Aside from classroom observations, many things can be learned from conversations with other teachers
in the field. The following activity will require you to interview math teachers and summarize what you
learn from them in a diagram. This activity will be part of the learning portfolio that you will compile at
the end of this module.

1. Interview two mathematics teachers. Ask them about the stages of the teaching cycle that they
follow. Then, create a diagram illustrating their common answer

This point corresponds to
what are often known as
utilitarian goals. We teach
mathematics because it is
useful in meeting the
demands of daily life for
everyone. The priority
statement for the National
Curriculum, for example,
mentions teaching children
"concepts, abilities, and
cognitive techniques that are
important in everyday life
Many everyday transactions
and real-life problems, as well
as most types of employment,
necessitate confidence and
competence in a variety of
basic mathematical skills and
knowledge  such as
measurement, manipulating
shapes, organizing space,
handling money, recording
and interpreting numerical and
graphical data, and using
information and
communications technology,
to name a few.
2. How is the diagram you created in #1 similar or different from the cycle that was presented
in this lesson?

- The only distinction is that the Cycle of Effective Instruction is made up of four components.
Active Instruction, Teamwork, Assessment, and Celebration are the components. can be put to
use to tackle a specific issue. Using instructor "think-alouds" to mimic the problem-solving
thought process.
