INTRODUCTION
Hello everyone!

Would you like to take a tour with me? But first, can you guess where can we find this unique
trishaw? We can find them in MELAKA. That’s correct. Well done!

Melaka is one of the famous destinations in Malaysia. It is situated south to Malay


Peninsula. This charming city is a UNESCO World Heritage site, rich with heritage
buildings, ancient landmarks and colonial structures.

Let’s take a look at the most famous places in Melaka.


1. A Famosa
The remains of this Portuguese fortress are among the oldest remaining European
structures in all of Asia. A Famosa (Porta de Santiago) was built on a seaside hilltop
in the early 15th century to protect the newly conquered land from returning to a
sultanate or being invaded by other European nations.
2. Masjid Selat
Melaka Straits Mosque or Masjid Selat was created in the early 20 th century with a
mix of Middle Eastern and Malay architectural styles. Built on manmade Malacca
island, it is designed to appear as if it is floating when water levels are high.
3. Malacca Sultanate Palace
Melaka Sultanate Palace, located at the foot of St.Paul’s Hill, is a replica of the 15 th-
century palace of Sultan Mansur Shah. Also known as Muzium Kebudayaan or
Cultural Museum.
4. Stadthuys
It is known as the oldest surviving Dutch building in the East. This iconic red
terracotta building once served as the official residence of the Dutch governor and
officers.
5. Menara Taming Sari
This revolving tower is reminiscent of the space needle in Seattle, and serves a lot of
the same purpose. Part ride, part sightseeing excursion, The Menara Taming is a
seven minute long ride and holds eighty people at a time.
6. Cheng Hoon Temple
Dating from 1646, the Cheng Hoon Teng Temple is the oldest Chinese temple in
Malaysia. It practices the three traditional Chinese doctrines of Taoism, Confucianism
and Buddhism.
7. Baba and Nyonya House Museum
It is a complex of three restored houses showcasing the typical 19 th-century Chinese-
Malays (Baba Nyonya) residence.
8. St. Paul’s Church
Originally built by a Portuguese captain in 1521 as a chapel. St.Paul’s Church offers
views over Melaka from the summit of Bukit St Paul.
9. Jonker Street
This street is the center of Chinatown of Melaka. It began in Dutch Colonial times as
the home to many of the servants of Dutch nobility. It is popular for the shops selling
clothes, antiques and souvenirs, apart from being a major street food hub.
10. Christ Church
Christ Church is an 18th-century Anglican Church. One of Melaka’s defining
structure; it is the oldest functioning Protestant church in Malaysia. Originally white,
this building was painted red in the early 1900’s.
11. Cheng Ho Cultural Museum
A must-visit for history buffs, Cheng Ho Cultural Museum is the largest museum in
Melaka. The museum features historical items, information and details about Zheng
He’s (Cheng Ho) life and explorations, a Chinese Ming Dynasty admiral.
12. Melaka Maritime Museum
The Melaka Maritime Museum showcases the maritime history of Melaka through its
three different sections. The highlight of the three is a replica of the Portuguese ship –
Flor de la Mar – that sank in Melaka due to an unfortunate accident.
13. Mini Malaysia and ASEAN Cultural Park
Mini Malaysia and ASEAN Cultural Park is a theme park housing replicas of ASEAN
and Malaysian homes with furniture, fixture and art pieces depicting the traditional
architecture and culture of every state.
14. A Famosa Water Theme Park
A Famosa Water World, Malaysia’s largest water theme park, is a popular day time
attraction in Melaka.
15. Upside Down House Melaka
The Upside Down House located in the Bandar Hilir is a two-storey shophouse
featuring an inverted version of a modern Malaysian house.
16. The Shore Sky Tower
The Shore Sky Tower is the tallest building in Melaka. Housing an observation deck
on the 43rd floor, it offers a breathtaking view up to 50 kilometres on every side.
17. Pantai Klebang
Pantai Klebang is a popular beach in Melaka, located near 1 Malaysian Square. The
beach is well known for its white sand dunes and is a perfect backdrop for
photographs.
