EASTERN PHILOSOPHY

To get somewhere, we must first identify our end goal. That is critical.
Everything else will become clearer the sooner you identify it. A life without direction
is a life without a goal. This is only possible if we live our lives guided by philosophy.

According to wilfrid sellars (2020), philosophy is a way of thinking about


certain subjects such as ethics, thought, existence, time, meaning and value.
That 'way of thinking' involves 4 rs: responsiveness, reflection, reason and re-
evaluation. The aim is to deepen understanding. The hope is that by doing
philosophy we learn to think better, to act more wisely, and thereby help to improve
the quality of all our lives.

The same is true in my profession as a teacher. I make a plan to be guided.


With this plan, I follow certain philosophies because I think that my philosophy will
bring me to my goal for my students. But in terms of the idea of adopting the eastern
philosophy, yes, I will adopt the eastern philosophy in education. Our present
philosophy is rooted in eastern philosophy which focuses on ethics, values
naturalism, and practicality. The teachings of the eastern philosophers are always
directed at the benefit and development of the learners.

However, according to Tagore we should never treat our students the way our
teachers treated us because we are not at the same time. In this case, since
students today are different from the time when eastern philosophies were
developed, as a teacher and as a graduate student, I may modify these philosophies
according to the students of the 21 st century. I will consider eastern philosophy and
apply it according to the needs and nature of my dear students.
