Introduction to Philosophy of Education

Direction: Answer the following comprehensively. (5pts.each)

1. Describe education in your own words.

Education is a progress, evolution, onward march and continuity. There should
be no stoppage to it. The teacher strengthen the “souls” of his pupils to the extent
that, when faced from the loving care of teacher. They are competent enough to
continue their onward journey to progress. Thing to be always kept in mind by the
teacher is that actions are motivated by man’s will and intention. The stronger the
will and intention the more firm and powerful is his action and courage.

2. Why should a teacher study philosophy of education?

Teachers are mentors and play a vital role in inculcating and teaching
independent thinking in learners. However, to do that as a teacher, we must have
a teaching philosophy of our own. It is a need for us to study philosophy of
education because it will help us avoid judgmental. It will help us interpret the
path of learning. By leaning philosophy, as a teacher we would be able to view
and analyze from the perspective of our students. Knowing the philosophy of
students lead us to be informed of their movements. Lastly, it will help us as a
teacher to know the strengths and weaknesses of our students.

3. “The scope of Philosophy of education is unlimited” Critically evaluate this

statement.
The formulation of aims and the objectives of education is the main responsibility
of educational philosophy. For achieving the set of objectives, specific curriculum
and specific methods are needed. For example, if the object of education is the
development of the personality of the learner, such methods should be applied
which help in the attainment of this goal. The Philosophy of education examines
the goals, forms, methods, meaning of education and occupies a central place in
the philosophical thoughts.
4. Discuss the relationship between Philosophy of Teaching and Teaching styles.
Educational philosophies and teaching styles are two aspect of learning that
influence the teaching-learning transaction in school. Philosophy of teaching
tends to answer the questions regarding the nature of the learners, nature of
subject matters, the application of subject matter toward meaningful learning
activities of students and the behavior trends that exhibit on philosophical [point
of view. While the teaching style refers to the way of teaching that is in lined and
appropriate to that philosophical point of view.
