Implementation of Digital I.D

Digital identity, which is also known as Identity 2.0, is everything that identifies us in the online
world.
In the online world, in addition to retaining the same data that identifies us in the offline world,
our identity is completed through everything we do: comments on articles, likes on Facebook,
retweets, photos on Instagram, petitions we sign on Change.org, etc. A digital identity arises
organically from the use of personal information on the web and from the shadow data created
by the individual’s actions online.

In today’s globally connected to society & employers are increasingly checking potential
employees online profiles in order to determine their suitability as a part of the employment
process. Thus digital literacies are now a core skillset for students and lecturers. The formation
of digital literacy skills involves several conceptual shifts, including: moving from teacher-
centred pedagogies towards student-determined pedagogies or heutagogy. A focus upon
epistemic knowledge construction, moving from technology adoption as substitutionary
towards enabling task redefinition, and a focus upon creativity as reinitiation of new
ideas.

By surfacing the voices and lived experiences of real people, the Identities Project has
generated deep insights into the day-to-day practices of identity in India. These insights reflect
learnings from Indian experiences of managing identity artifacts, but they are also insights that
others can learn from as they develop identity technologies in other contexts. In many ways,
this user-focused, empirical work is a natural complement to high-level guidelines such as the
Principles on Identification for Sustainable Development.

The Identities Project adopted a wide lens approach, exploring the complexity of individuals’
use of identity technologies, but going beyond the constraints of a narrow focus on use cases,
on “technologies-in-use” and on instrumental functional activities. This approach reveals both
the benefits and challenges presented by identity technologies. We found that people find
value in the use of identity credentials in a wide range of ways, from recognition of eligibility to
receive social services to verification to access private-sector services such as bank accounts
and SIM cards.
