Online Teaching & Learning

I would like to wish a good day to the honourable adjudicators and beloved
audiences. My name is Kuganeswari a/p Mohan. Today, I would like to talk on
Online Teaching & Learning.

Ladies and gentleman,

Online teaching and learning had become rampant in these days. We could
see everywhere the students and teachers are busy with their online teaching and
learning. But what is an online teaching and learning? Online teaching and learning
are the process of teaching and learning where it is conducted through various
online platforms that requires pupils to look at the screen, listen and respond
accordingly. Recently, the government has introduced online teaching and learning
in our country in an effort to continue learning during the intense Covid-19 pandemic.

The period of the Movement Control Order announced by the YAB Prime
Minister starting 18th March 2020 shows that the government is very concerned
about the safety and health of Malaysians. The extended period provides space for
teachers to implement their teaching and learning sessions (PdPc) remotely.
Certainly, in the first two phases of PKP, teachers have been exposed to various
technologies as well as methods that can be implemented at this time. In addition,
the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) has collaborated with Radio Televisyen
Malaysia (RTM) to provide Educational TV programs for students who do not have
internet access.

Dear audiences,

Similarly, today there are many universities that offer distance education
where the use of the technology is very necessary. It is time for such facilities to be
extended to schools from primary to upper levels using online systems for students
to continue learning without going to school. This is because learning is done online
where video conferencing like Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Webex is
used. Students do not have to attend lectures physically because these lectures are
conducted online and students only activate video conferencing to attend lectures.
Learning notes can be downloaded online and lectures can be recorded and
students can listen to lectures over and over again. In addition, tests are also
conducted through various online platforms.

However, many students do not know the benefits of online teaching and
learning and do not show any interest in online teaching and learning. As the saying
goes, you will never know the value of something until you try it. It is undeniable that
the most important advantage of online teaching and learning is the delivery of
knowledge is quick and easy. It is said so because the information is at your
fingertips. For example, pupils can browse the Internet to find information using
search engines such as Google, Yahoo or Bing. As a result, pupils will not be like
frogs under the coconut shell.

Ladies and gentleman,

Besides, online teaching and learning help to reduce the use of material such
as papers. It would be an excellent effort in order to achieve sustainability and save
our Mother nature. E-learning is the greener option because it is better for the
environment. At the same time, students can also be exposed to a variety of latest
applications and technologies that can instill their talents and skills to face the
modern world today. On the other hand, online teaching and learning are usually
less expensive than the traditional ones. In addition, both teachers and pupils save
on education-related costs. For example, teachers do not have to photocopy the
worksheets instead they can upload the tasks through online platforms like Google
Classroom or Microsoft Teams. Besides, teachers can also use Kahoot, Quizziz or
Liveworksheets to evaluate their pupils’ understanding. They may also not be
required to purchase study materials, reference books or textbooks, which can be
obtained online for free.

On the other hand, Online learning give students full control of their own
learning. Unlike traditional classroom preparation, online learning allows you to study
wherever and whenever you want. You do not have to deal with crowded travel and
traffic, and you can learn from the comfort of your own. Online teaching and learning
gives you the option to study in the most conducive environment for you. Whether in
your room, in the library, in a coffee shop or in the garden, all you need is a laptop or
tablet with a reliable internet connection. Pupils will be able to work at their own pace
through online teaching and learning.

As a conclusion, online education provides many advantages for people and

environment. A great way to benefit more from online education is to consolidate
