Topic: Role of Information Technology in Education during COVID-19

Pandemic.

This COVID-19 Pandemic brought a lot of change in the lives of people.

Everything became contactless and wireless. No one could have expected that
the world would be on lockdown to stop the spread of COVID-19 for months.
IT has helped us in tackling the disruption caused by COVID-19. It has become
very easy to handle studies during COVID-19 pandemic, all thanks to
Technology.

Online learning through video calls, Google meet and Zoom meetings helped us
a lot in studies without these things there won’t be possible for us to do focus on
studies. There are many teachers who have adapted quite well in digital
teaching, but some of the teachers are not very frank with these types of
learning, which somehow they suffered a bit. Providing online lessons,
introducing new learning content, providing task differentiation, providing
feedback, conducting online assessments teachers have to look far ahead of
these things. Many parents also have to take care and mange a bit because of
financial problems during this lockdown and to buy a smartphone for their
students to attend their online lectures. They have to take of their studies and as
well as their own work which they have to do. This technology also helps the
teachers to teach from their homes and further discuss the progress of the

student with their parents. Teachers can attend to the queries of the parents
anytime and anywhere through and make informed decisions regarding the
child’s growth.

It also helped the environment to a certain way, there is no use of papers and
books so the trees also are saved and also no physical colleges and schools, so
pollution has also reduced. Mobile apps in education require just a download or
a presentation or any sort of a study material. And also definitely after this
pandemic many schools and colleges will continue to teach online learning as it
is. “I believe that the integration of information technology in education will be
further accelerated and that online education will eventually become an integral
component of school education,“ says Wang Tao, Vice President of Ten cent
Cloud and Vice President of Ten cent Education. Most of the schools and
colleges have become successful in online teaching which is great news, for a
sudden change in such a short notice it has been very successful on both the
ways for students as well as teachers.

According to reports, 1.6 billion students in 194 countries were impacted by

school closures which are a very huge number. Now, there are also some
challenges and restrictions because of this COVID-19 pandemic in education. In
India people are not very adopted to these types of learning it has been very
difficult for the people of India to adapt this kind of learning, however people

don’t have a proper internet connection to look after it and also as I said earlier
that financial problems also is a major problems in people. While some schools
and governments have been providing digital equipment to students in need.

When COVID-19 is going to stop we don’t have any clue till that schools and
colleges will be closed for sure. It clearly shows that challenges in ensuring
educational continuity do not stop with the deployment of digital solutions for
distance learning. We also need to pay close attention that technology in
education will not amplify existing inequalities and not deepen the digital
divide. If we don’t do that, students from disadvantaged backgrounds will
remain shut out if schools shut down, particularly those students who lack the
resilience, learning strategies or engagement to learn on their own.

Now I would like to share my experience on this online education. I stay in

Mumbai, Maharashtra which is
quite well developed city and has
internet access everywhere and fast.
Then also I was having some
problems while I was attending the
online lectures the network goes off
and on sometimes even teachers
were also having problem. So the classes which I attend are a platform where
most of the people use Google meet and Zoom Meetings. And there is no
physical interactions and no face to face teachings, if sometimes teachers wants
to know that the students understands the concepts then he or she have to ask
the students and wait till the response comes and this also takes very much time.

The assignments and homeworks has to be send in the classroom link the
subject teachers prepare and then the students have to submit I the given time. I
n the other hand it is also quite easy task to attend the colleges everything is

hands free and contactless, and the work is also done perfectly. Like everything
has an advantage and a disadvantage this also has some major disadvantage and
some major disadvantage. So these are my experiences till now on the classes
which I have attended.

Though there are plenty of resources on the internet, the pandemic has shone a
light on some brilliant and free options that were unpopular before. Apart from
free and discounted tech tools, the resources also include open digital libraries.
These offer free students and teachers all over the world access to a new array
of learning materials. Students who are after self-teaching or learning a new
skill are taking advantage of such platforms to continue studying during
lockdowns. There are many students who are taking a great advantage of this
lockdown. On the other hand, for hands-on fields, this creativity is often
combined with tech. Technology has offered solutions in the form of simulators
for learning purposes.
