Special tools • Install RH timing chain:

General precautions
• Disconnect battery ground cable.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft or camshaft with
timing chain removed.
• Remove spark plugs to ease turning engine.
• Turn crankshaft in normal direction of rotation
(unless otherwise stated).
• If required: Mark position of crankshaft position
(CKP) sensor before removal.
• Do NOT turn crankshaft via camshaft or other
sprockets.
• Observe all tightening torques.

NOTE: If necessary, block crankshaft to
prevent rotation.
o Turn camshaft in both directions with
specified torque B:
o Torque - with cylinder heads installed:
30 ft. Ibs.
o Torque - with cylinder heads removed:
15 ft. Ibs.
o Measure amount of sprocket/chain
movement.
o Replace the timing chain and sprockets if the
measurement 'X' exceeds 0.125 inch B.
• Turn crankshaft two revolutions and check timing
marks.
• If necessary, remove camshaft sprocket and
realign.

Valve timing procedures

• Removal/installation of timing chain(s) requires:
o Oil pan removal.
• Engine at TDC NO.1 cylinder.
• Ensure arrows on crankshaft sprocket
and camshaft sprocket aligned towards each
other D.
• Turn crankshaft until timing marks on crankshaft
sprocket f) and camshaft sprocket B aligned
with colored chain links.
