1.3 In Annexure C, are the calculations of the step tariff on water consumption for a single dwelling
(i.e. using 20 kilolitres and 35 kilolitres as the total consumption of water in a month for two
households)
Study the Tariff Table on Annexure C and answer the questions that follow
Anka and her family fall under the City of Johannesburg Municipality.
1.3.1 What is the difference in how much they would pay if they maintained using 6 [2]
kl of water per month in 2019 and 2021?
1.3.2 If Anka and three members of her family are recently using 800 litres daily, on [3]

QUESTION 2
2.1 Lesego is a professional plumber who is self- employed. Her current average
monthly profit is R26 000. Lesego is trying to work on her budget as she is
struggling to balance her finances so that she does not end up using business money
to patch up household responsibilities. She comes across a budget chart for an
average South African.

Study the chart and answer the questions that follow.

2.1.1 How much is Lesego spending on Communication? [2]

2.1.2 Lesego spends R1 000 on restaurants and hotels per month. Is she spending [4]
within the average budget? By how much is she spending less or more?
2.1.3 Lesego does not budget for education and spends only 20. 55% on [3]
housing, water, electricity, gas & other fuel and 3% on clothing and
footwear. What is total percentage profit that she spends?
2.1.4 Determine her nett profit. [3]
2.1.5 What else can Lesego do to minimise spending unnecessarily? [2]

2.2 Lesego wants to stop using her cellphone for business calls. She seeks for advice and her father
suggests that she needs a Wi-Fi router to be able to have virtual meetings; make video calls; send
and receive emails and use internet for generally anything her business might need.
Her father told her that she can pay as little as R200 per month on uncapped internet and she will
also receive a simcard with 200 minutes free worth of calls.
Lesego is intrigued and decides to do her research and receives two quotes, one from Talk-Tym
and another from Tele-Route.
Table 1 below summarises the two quotes she received:
TALK-TYM TELE-ROUTE
Once- off router fee: R250 Once- off router fee: R200
Monthly instalment: R200 Monthly instalment: R200
Free minutes to any net: 200 Free minutes to any net: 250
Call cost: R1. 20 per minute Call cost: R1. 50 per minute

2.2.1 The formula to calculate Talk-Tym’s costs per call = (total minutes of [3]
calls- free minutes) X R1. 20. How much could Lesego pay on calls if on
average she makes 350 minutes worth of calls?
2.2.2 Compare your answer in 2.2.1 with how much she would pay on Tele- [3]
Route if she made the same amount of calls.
2.2.3 Which quote would you advise Lesego to opt for? Show by calculation [5]
which service provider is cheaper, including the monthly instalment, taking
into consideration the fact that she makes, on average 350 minutes worth of
calls.
2.2.4 Below are costs of calls for both service providers, including the monthly instalment but
excluding the once- off router fee. Determine the missing values.

Minutes 100 150 200 250 300 a 700

Talk-
Tym 200 200 200 260 320 680 b
Tele-
Route 200 200 200 200 c 725 875

[6]
2.2.5 On Annexure E, a graph representing Talk- Tym has been plotted. On the
same set of axes, plot the graph representing Tele-Route. [5]
2.2.6 At how many minutes do both service providers break- even? [2]

3.1.2 The counsellor wrote in his report: "more than two out of every five
teenagers feels either a lot or an unbearable amount of pressure to achieve [3]
at school". Show how the counsellor could have come to this conclusion.

3.2 Mrs Lamola is the high-jump coach at Robin High School. She records the heights jumped by the
five boys in the high-jump team.

Lulu is one of the members of the team. The following are the heights, in
metres, of his last 12 jumps:
1,70; 1,68; 1,78; 1,90; 1,74; 1,85; 1,81; 1,95; 1,98; 2,00; 2,02; 1,80

3.2.1 Determine the median height jumped by Lulu during his last 12 jumps. [2]
3.2.2 Determine the height that is his lower quartile (Q1) and upper quartile [4]
(Q3).
3.2.3 Work out his Interquartile range (IQR), in centimetres, using the formula: [3]
Interquartile Range = Upper Quartile – Lower Quartile
OR IQR = Q3 – Q1.
