1 INTRODUCTION
Dear Student
Greetings and welcome to Business Informatics 2B
We are pleased to welcome you to Business Informatics IIB and hope that you will find it both
interesting and rewarding. We shall do our best to make your study of this module successful.
You will be well on your way to success if you start studying early in the year and resolve to do
the assignment(s) properly.
This is the first and last tutorial letter that you will receive. This tutorial letter contains important
information about the scheme of work, resources and assignments for this module. We urge
you to read it carefully and to keep it at hand when working through the study material,
preparing the assignment(s), preparing for the examination and directing questions to your
lecturers.
Please read Tutorial Letter 301 in combination with Tutorial Letter 101 as it gives you an idea of
generally important information when studying at a distance and within a particular College.
In Tutorial Letter 101, you will find the assignments and assessment criteria as well as
instructions on the preparation and submission of assignments and the examination. This
tutorial letter also provides all the information you need regarding the prescribed study material
and other resources and how to obtain it. Please study this information carefully and make sure
that you obtain the prescribed material as soon as possible.

Demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of information technology infrastructure.

➢ Students explain the different IT infrastructures and platforms and the management of
data resources.

➢ The description outlines the organization of data in a traditional as well as in a new
environment.

8.1 Assessment criteria
Final mark and year mark
The marks that you obtain by submitting the assignments and writing the examination will
contribute to your Final Mark (FM) for this module. This is in accordance with the approved
Unisa Assessment Policy. For this module, the following formula is used to calculate your Final
Mark (FM):
Final Mark (FM) = 80% of Examination Mark (EM) + 20% of Year Mark (YM).
And the following formula is used to calculate your Year Mark (YM):

(34% of Assignment 03)
It is vital that you complete all the assignments in order to gain the necessary skills to pass the
examination.
