General Information
Description
This is an introductory course in the design of structures using different materials such as steel and
timber. This course is recommended for seniors in the architecture program who are interested in
learning the structural design. The objectives of this are to learn the basic in the design of structural
components of steel and timber.

Course Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
1. Identify and compute the design loads on a typical steel or timber components.
2. Compute their design strengths depending if the member is used as a tension or compression
member.
3. Apply relevant National Structural Code of the Philippines (2001, 2010, 2015) provisions to
ensure safety and serviceability of the structural members.
