1.4404/ 1.4401 (ASTM 316/ 316L – ≈ SS2348)
By using 1.4404 (ASTM 316/ 316L – ≈ SS2348) you get a corrosion resistant
austenitic stainless steel with good formability. The steel is modified for machining
and has very good corrosion resistance. The steel is often used for details within
building and construction, process industry.
The steel grade 1.4404 (also called ASTM 316/ 316L and ≈ SS2348) is a stainless ” acid-proof” steel which is easy to machine.
The steel has improved machinability by, MAXIVAL®, and it is suitable for production of corrosion resistant products by
machining. 1.4404 has a very good corrosion resistance which make it useful within a wide range of areas. It has an improved
resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in environments containing chlorides, due to the addition of moybdenium. It is non-
magnetic but may become slightly magnetic after cold working and welding.
Typical application areas for 1.4404:
Construction
Building
