TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Following an in-depth review of your hospital’s website, I would like to inquire about a nursing
position within your hospital in the newly constructed Medical Surgical unit. I am interested in the
RN I Med/Surg Observation opening. What stuck out the most to me is this facility’s patient
centered care model, which requires nurses and doctors to treat the individual and not just the
symptoms. I was also impressed with the myriad of accreditations your facility has received for
heart care, as well as your use of life saving technology.

While being a full-time, fast track nursing student, I have been in the clinical setting of many
hospitals within the valley, working with several registered nurses, and on a few medical-surgical
units. This is a fast-paced, thrilling, and serious unit. Nurses performing there must have complete
understanding of their patients’ conditions and the medications that they are to distribute, while
simultaneously attending to the whole person. During these clinicals, I have been able to
familiarize myself with the UHS charting system, pyxis medication dispenser, UHS core values
and beliefs, as well as hospital policies and procedures. I believe the open position for RN I
Med/Surg is a great match for my current skillset. I have gained leadership experience in nursing
school as the charge nurse during clinical days for the community course, and it involved
delegation, transparency, and communication. In the time at the hospitals and clinics, I have had
the opportunity to care for patients’ and their families by involving them in their care, and forming
a good rapport.

My goal as a new graduate nurse, is to work in a hospital like yours, to provide culturally
competent, safe nursing care, that will be recommended to others in the community. I hope to
