CASE STUDY
Urban Haat is an ever- permanent fair for crafts, food
and cultural activities. The craftsmen from various
areas and the cultural happenings provides a THE CONCEPT OF 'URBAN HAAT'
panoramic view of richness and diversity of 'URBAN HAAT' the word itself says, Haat market place
handicrafts and articrafts. particular town/village.
It provides space to the artisan and craftsmen of India
to exhibit and sell their handicrafts, therefore cutting
the middle agencies.

SURROUNDINGS
The site is near to Belapur railway station in sector 29,
the site is located at corner of cross junction of
Nirmaladevi Marg and Sakarem Patil Marg.
The site is hilly terrain which is slooping towards the main road.
The planning is done keeping in mind the pedestrians circulation
and site contours. The site is planned in such a way that it minimise
the excavation cost by building a retaining wall arround the
siteand locating structural components at periphery of the wall.

The design concept is based on
the shape of a “three-blade
propeller”, which extends out
into of three sets of 70 meter
smooth surfaces and three super-
scale windows.

By raising the main space of the building to 6 metres high, line of vision
is suddenly opened up to views of cruise ships and mountain trees in
the distance.

The Edge of the side court flip up to form the roof, a covering for
the “hanging garden” with fantastic views. The material of the exhibition hall
include dark red brick and etching copper reflecting the history of Shekou,
while the glazed glass of the side atrium suggests futurity.
Merging of these two materials at a distance echo a balance of
warm and cold.
