General Directions: Do what is asked in every set of test. Show PERTINENT solutions if necessary. Write
your answers in a clean sheets of YELLOW PAPER.

A. Modified True or False: Write True if the statement is true and Correct the statement if the statement
is false.

1. The area under a normal distribution curve that lies within three standard deviations of the mean is
approximately 95%.
2. When the majority of the data values fall to the right of the mean, the distribution is said to be
negatively skewed.
3. The normal distribution curve can be used as a probability distribution curve for normally distributed
variables.
4. The area under a normal distribution curve is always positive even if the z-value is negative.

B. Finding the Area: Use the Z-table or the Normal Distribution Table to find the area that corresponds to

C. Problem Solving: Solve the Following Problems below:

1. Entry to a certain University is determine by a national test. The scores on this test are normally
distributed with a mean of 500 and a standard deviation of 100. Tom wants to be admitted to this
University and he knows that he must score better that at least 70% of the students who took the test.
Tom takes the test and scores 585. Will he be admitted to this University?

2. The time taken to assemble a car in a plant is a random variable having a normal distribution of mean
equals 20 hours and a standard deviation of 2 hours. What is the probability that a car can be assembled at
this plant in a period of time
a. Less than 19.5 hours?
b. Between 20 and 22 hours?
