Situation:
As a member of student council, you are tasked to take part in the high school freshmen
orientation in your school. You are assigned to give the freshmen tips on how to effectively
hurdle their first year in high school.
About 10 minutes before the orientation begins, the air-conditioning system in the venue breaks
down. If the organizers decide to call the repair men, it would take half an hour to fix the
problem, which would mean that the orientation could stretch on until past noon. Moreover, rain
has started beating down the roof and windows of the function room and shows no signs of
letting up.
Answer:
There is only a couple possible noises that can cause communication breakdown in the
given situation. First, the breaking down of the air-conditioning system in the venue which if the
organizers were to call the repair men, it would take half an hour to fix and it would also be very
noisy from the sound of the tools that the repair men will use to fix the air-conditioning system.
To fix or avoid this communication breakdown, the organizers must first make sure that
everything in the venue that will be used must be in top-condition. The second communication
breakdown is the noise of rain beating down the roof and windows, which would make the
receivers not fully understand what we the senders are trying to express. To remedy this
breakdown, either the move the orientation to the next day or just compress everyone so that
there is no misunderstanding.
