Week 1
Physics 1 (Agile)

Overview:
WELCOME TO PHYSICS 1!
In this course, you will learn how to solve real world problems using knowledge in physics. You
will recognize physics concepts and identify simple machines inside a complex one and describe
how they work. This course will help you understand and design experiments that will answer
physics-related questions.

You will be acquiring and developing several skills such as (1) Information Literacy, (2) Teamwork,
(3) Time Management, and (4) Experimentation.

● Information Literacy, Level 3: Can locate and use VALID, ACCURATE, RELEVANT,
THOROUGH, and COMPLETE information to understand concepts, answer questions, and
establish and defend positions.
● Teamwork, Level 3-4: Can e ectively COMMUNICATE, COOPERATE and COLLABORATE
with others, in small or large groups, to accomplish a common goal.
● Time Management, Level 3-4: Can ORGANIZE, PRIORITIZE, and STAY ON TASK, to meet
planned goals/objectives.

Domain-Speci c Skills
● Experimentation, Level 3-4: Can e ectively APPLY the principles of the Scienti c Method
to TEST hypotheses in an academic or work context.

These skills will help you as you go through the course and it will also make the study of Biology
authentic.

For this week, you will gain awareness and recognize physics concepts from real inventions. You
will also be able to deduce how a complex machine works. Therefore, you are expected to
complete the following tasks within Week 1:

1. Be oriented about the expectations of the course and what their nal output is.
2. Identify simple machines inside a complex one and describe how they work.

Then at the end of this week, you will be able to:
● Gain knowledge, speci cally:
○ Identify simple machines inside a complex one and describe how they work.

● Develop skills in:

○ Information Literacy, Level 3: Can locate and use VALID, ACCURATE, RELEVANT,
THOROUGH, and COMPLETE information to understand concepts, answer
questions, and establish and defend positions.
○ Time Management, Level 3-4: Can ORGANIZE, PRIORITIZE, and STAY ON TASK, to
meet planned goals/objectives.

This format is the same across all the learner guides that you will access for this course. Weekly
tasks and durations are speci ed to ensure that you complete your deliverables each week. You
can spend less or more time per task than the speci ed duration depending on your capability to
complete the work; however, be mindful of output due dates.

Your facilitator will share the links that will be used for the Week 1 synchronous sessions.

Duration:
Six (6) hours
● FRAMING ACTIVITY: Course Overview [Session 1 - 45 mins]
● EXERCISE: Time to Tink Physics [Session 1-2 - 210 mins]
● SYNTHESIS ACTIVITY [Session 2 - 105 mins]

Week 1 Tasks:
1. Review the Course Overview.
2. Complete the Exercise about simple machines inside a complex one and describing how
they work.
3. Write down your key takeaways for the week.

Instructions:

EXERCISE: Time to Tink Physics [Session 1-2 - 210 mins]

READ 1. Read through the instructions of the exercise.

WATCH Watch carefully the following video:
1. How Submarine Works to get an idea on how you are going to map out
the parts of your chosen machine.

ANSWER 1. Accomplish the task by choosing from your list of machines one that
you are ready to dispose of.
2. Break down the machine and map out each part, then explain how
each part interacts with other parts to make the machine work.
3. Place your machine parts map in your copy of the worksheet, then
answer the guided questions on the same document.
4. Submit your exercise in the LMS, and present your work to the class.
5. Update the accomplishment tracker so your facilitator can monitor your
progress. Check your class ACCOMPLISHMENT TRACKER in Google
Classroom.

This exercise must be completed within Week 1, session 1 to session 2

ONLY.

ADDITIONAL You will have a 1on1 consultation every session with your facilitator every
NOTES session. Your learning facilitator will be grouping the class and will assign
you with your breakout room for easy communication.

SYNTHESIS ACTIVITY [Session 1-2 - 105 mins]

DISCUSS Participate in reviewing the exercise and your progress. In session 2

synthesis, you will be asked a series of questions to check your
understanding of your activity. Make sure to volunteer yourself in
answering.

ASK Clarify the instructions of today’s task.

Additional Utilize the FAQ Sheet if you have any questions about speci c topics or
Resource tasks.

NOTE Session 1 Synthesis - 30 minutes

Session 2 Framing Activity - 15 minutes
Session 2 Synthesis - 60 minutes for the presentation of your exercise.
