Dynamic Soil-Structure Interaction Model Validation

Problem Description: A single steel pipe pile; 30’ length; 24”

Diameter with 0.5” thickness is subjected to and released from a
quasistatic lateral load such that the pile undergoes a free vibration

Lateral load

Material Description:
Steel: Bilinear Elastic-Plastic model
Young’s modulus 29000 ksi
Yield stress = 60 ksi
Soil: Cohesionless sand model
Unit weight 120 pcf
Internal friction angle 32 degree

Loading Condition: A lateral load linearly varying with respect to

time (up to 100 kips for the duration of 2 seconds) was applied to the
top node and was released.
