Venezuela makes history
at Tokio Olympic Games
Venezuela leaves an indelible mark in
the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Yulimar
Rojas wins the gold medal and sets the
world record with a mark of 15.67 me-
ters in the women’s triple jump. It thus
adds the fourth medal of the country
in the Japanese capital, which together
with the silver medals of Julio Mayora
and Keydomar Vallenilla, both in
weightlifting, and Daniel Dhers, in BMX
Freestyle cycling, already crowns the
best performance of Venezuela at the
Olympic Games. The delegation also
sports 4 Olympic diplomas, thanks to
judoka Anriquelis Barrios, pole vaulter
Robeilys Peinado and weightlifters
Yusleidy Figueroa and Naryuri Pérez.
Venezuela had achieved a maximum
of three medals in an Olympic event: 2
silver and one bronze in Rio 2016 and
3 bronze in Los Angeles 1984. Yulimar’s
also became the country’s fourth gold
medal in the Olympic Games and the
first won by a woman. With the three
from Tokyo, we add a total of 7 sil-
ver medals. So we get to 21 Olympic
medals, for the time being.

Another weightlifter, Keydomar Vallenilla,
reached the second medal for the country in
these Olympics. He won the silver in the 96
kg category by lifting a total of 387 kg. “The
strength of Venezuela was with me at all times.”
The first medal for Venezuela in Tokyo went
to the weightlifter Julio Mayora, in the 73 kg
category, Olympic runner-up by lifting 346 kg.

done in 15 years.” Cyclist Daniel Dhers won
Venezuela’s third medal, with a score of 92.05
in BMX Freestyle, a sport that debuted on the

Venezuela and Peru move towards
a new stage in their relations
Foreign Minister, Jorge Arreaza, attended the inau-
guration of Pedro Castillo as President of Peru and
conveyed to him the best wishes on behalf of the
Venezuelan people and government.
He ratified the bonds of brotherhood between both
peoples, and met with the new Peruvian Minister of
Foreign Affairs, Héctor Béjar, a renowned social fighter,
writer and sociologist, to evaluate mechanisms aimed
at the integral recovery of relations, in matters such as
“trade, policies of assistance to migrants and the need
to strengthen the mechanisms of union in Our America.”
Minister Arreaza also attended the symbolic
swearing-in of President Castillo at the Pampa de
Quinua, where the Battle of Ayacucho was fought,
which sealed the Independence of South America.
Regarding the new head of state, he stated: “Pedro
Castillo is a President that the humble people put
in the Presidency (...). We feel deeply proud of the
Peruvian people for overcoming any situation and

Program (WFP) of the United Nations, Lola

providing nutritional assistance to one million
children in Venezuela.

Experts of Latin America (CEELA), Nicanor
Moscoso, met with authorities of the Electoral
Power of Venezuela to set the terms of the
mission that the body will send to the regional
and municipal elections on 21 November. In
Caracas, the president of CEELA also witnessed
the start of the audit of the Electoral Register.

Venezuela expressed in a statement its
categorical repudiation of the imposition of
unilateral coercive measures against the Vice
President of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, and
seven other high-ranking officials of that coun-
try by the European Union, which “once again
aligns itself with the practice of follow-up to
the intervention policies of the United States.”

HEROIC ROOTS
From the
Admirable
Campaign to
Junín: the long
road of liberty
August involves some of the most glorious
dates in the long fight for Venezuela’s and South
America’s independence. On August 6, 1813,
Simón Bolívar and his army enter triumphantly
to Caracas, successfully completing the Admira-
ble Campaign which initiated six months before,
and in it he won the Liberator title.
That was not the end of the road. Ahead were
more triumphs and also many defeats and
backdrops. But being free was an irreversible
decision of those men and women. Six years
later, on August 7, 1819, the liberation of New
Granada, today Colombia, would be sealed
in the Boyacá Battle, with the victory of the
Liberator army commanded by Bolívar, after 6
hours in combat.
“Never had our troops triumphed in such a

affirmation which predicted the triumphs of
the battles of Carabobo, where Venezuela was
liberated in 1821; Pichincha, which marked
the independence of Ecuador, in 1822, and
Junín, key element for Peru’s liberty, on
August 6, 1824.
For Bolívar, liberty was not secured until the
Spanish imperialism was definitely defeated
in all South America. It was achieved with the
victory of Ayacucho on December 9, 1824.
The Liberator always knew that there is no
glory without sacrifice and that there is no
triumph without a strong will, perseverance
and courage. Today, the heirs of his legacy take
his example and -like him and his army- are
determined to be free.

Vocational training
strengthens health system
The graduation of 3,276 professionals in different
specialties, graduates of the University of Health
Sciences “Hugo Chávez Frías” (UCS, Spanish initials),
strengthens the Venezuelan Public Health System,
which in the words of the President of the Republic,
Nicolás Maduro, must become the most complete, of
the highest professional, scientific and human quali-
ty that exists in Latin America and the Caribbean.
To support this objective, the president approved
193,472 Petros (about 10.9 million dollars) to reha-
bilitate the UCS headquarters in Caracas and its 24
centers. Also, during the graduation ceremony, he
asked the health authorities to strengthen alliances
with other learning institutions and ordered a
doubling of the number of UCS students.

The last Survey on Territories Affected by Illicit
Crops made by the United Nations Office on
Drugs and Crime (Unodc), reaffirms Colombia
as the biggest cocaine producer in the world,
a reality that the government and media of

According to the study, the cocaine produc-
tion potential increased 8% between 2019 and
2020 to 1,228 metric tons of drugs. The crops
are concentrated in 40% in border areas with

sibilities of safeguarding its border territory by
the Colombian State.
