International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61996 Maritime
navigation and radiocommunication equipment and systems – Shipbone
voyage data recorder (VDR) – Performance requirements – Methods of
testing and required test results section 4.6 – Data items to be recorded
(resolution A.846(20), section 5.4). Confirmation that all data is available
throughout the 12-hour recording.

11. Observations and additional manufacturer’s requirements

Note - This specifically provides for the logging of significant events that may have occurred on board
since the previous test, including the refitting of equipment or major unit change to existing equipment. −
Any or all of which may have an impact on the availability or quality of the VDR/S-VDR input signal.

Please leave P1 and 2 on board, do not leave P3(this page) which shall be issued by TMSC/JRC after manufacturer’s data
confirmation/review. However, please write remarks here or service report if any and send it to TMSC/JRC.

This performance test was conducted in accordance with SOLAS regulation V/18.8 and forms part of the
procedure for the issue of the Annual Performance Test Certificate. The results, information and any
comments should be relayed to the manufacturer in accordance with the instructions contained within the
Operation Manual. Subject to satisfactory results, an Annual Performance Test Certificate will then
be issued.

In accordance with the principles of harmonization of Certificates, the Certificate, when issued, will
remain valid until the next annual re-validation of that Certificate, subject to the equipment being
maintained in appropriate operational condition.

 Download configuration Data from JCY-1000.
1) Download RCU configuration.
Connect cross-serial cable for RCU Com1.
Then click RCU Maintenance ICON.

1. Entering and Modifying The Configuration Data

Clicking on the RCU Maintenance Icon boosts the RCU Maintenance software module.
The RCU maintenance software searches the COM port linked to RCU automatically. And it connects by the searched
COM port.
● Searching the COM port
When search results are errors, the PC for maintenance cannot
communicate with RCU.Take measures in the following steps:Check the
connection of the COM cable.Reboot the RCU.

Since search results are displayed by the dialog, click the OK button after checking the message.

The right-hand side of the window is the Events Information Screen, where the current operational Conditions are
listed in the chronological order. The buttons on the left-hand side of the window enable the operations such as
maintenance and settings.
To set the system configurations, click the System Configuration button.

Click the System Configuration button, and the Password Dialog Box appears. Enter the password.
If the correct password is entered, the window for setting configurations appears.
The password is "jrcvdr".

To check the current configurations, click the RECEIVE button. It receives the data from RCU and displays them on
the System Configuration Window.

Click the SAVE button, the configuration data are downloaded to a local media local drive of the PC.

2) Download DAU configuration.

Connect Straight-serial cable for DAU.

Then click DAU Maintenance ICON.

This is to enter the password, user’s name, and the name of the company the user is belonging to.
The software does not start up unless all the fields are filled out properly.
The user’s name, company’s name and the time of entry are stored in the Capsule.

To use this software, set the password as below.
Password: JRCVDR
Name, Company
Enter the user’s name, and the name of the company the use is belonging to.
Date & Time
Date & Time is registered automatically.
Click the OK button.
2.2 Setting of COM Ports
Select the COM port to be connected to the DAU.
If “AUTO” is selected, The COM port connected to the DAU is searched automatically.
Click the Connect button.

 Click others TAB.

The configuration data are received from the DAU, and it will save as a file.
Click the DAU->FILE button. (The Save File ?? dialog box appears.)
Enter the name of the file to which the settings are saved.

Download Data from capsule TYPE:JCY-1000.
1) Use HVR Backup software, you can take Sensor0.dat from capsule.
Connection Ether cable to HUB.
Set own IP for 192.168.0.5
Then Click “HVR Backup”.

Click the Browse button and specify the directory in which the data
file is to be saved.
Select the types of data to be saved and click the check boxes next to
them.
If all the data is to be saved, click the check box next to All.
If part of the data is to be saved, specify the volume of the data to be
saved using the slide bar.
after the completion of the settings, click the START button. For
each data type, a progress bar

to quit, click the EXIT button.

2) Extract by "Backup Data Extract" software. (Sensor0.dat to Log.dat)

1) Click the EXTRACT button from the Launcher menu.

2) The Backup Data Extract software module starts up and
the Folder Selection Dialog Box 1, which looks like below,
appears.
3) In the following, procedures are given for clicking the
Browse button and selecting a folder to be extracted.

Ex) after extract, Folder tree as below.

Then you can view Radar picture and audio file into Visual/Audio folder.

3) Log.dat file is converted to text file by the "Log to text" software. (Log.dat
to Text)

This software module is used to convert NMEA0183 sentence data file (LOG) into a text file, so that it can be read on
a text editor.
The types of data files to be converted are:
a) Log.dat that is backed up from the HDD of RCU to a DVD-RAM disc.
b) Log.dat that is decompressed using the BACKUP DATA EXTRACT Software Module from Sensor0.dat, which is a
backup file from the Protected Capsule Unit.
c) Log.dat that has been sorted using the SORT LOG.DAT FROM HDD Software Module (see 6.6), because the
Log.dat that is backed up via LAN from the HDD of RCU contains bugs.
2) Operation:
Click the LOG to TEXT Icon, and the LOG to TEXT Software Module starts.
The LOG to TEXT Window, which looks like below, appears.
Type in the directory name that contains Log.dat to be converted into a text file as well as the directory name in
which the converted file is to be saved. Click the Start button.
To quit the software module after conversion, click the Exit button.

Log data can be displayed and checked by WORDPAD.

======What kind format of sentence is available in the log? ========
Before read the Recorded data, you need found installation drawing or read out configuration ,so because you need
understand what kind data is connected to each port.
If you cannot find at ship document, please contact JRC Service web site,
Please tell us the Type name/Serial number and your e-mail address, we will be sending to you the
signal-connected list.
IEC61162 standard sentence will be easy to read out if you have IEC61162 sentence list.
Ex) DPT, MWV, VBW, HDT, HTD, RSA, ZDA, DTM, GGA etc.....

If DAU have connected to some special Manufacture original sentence, you must find each manufactures document.
Ex) ALA, XDR, etc....
Note) Play Back Software cannot display their original sentence. you must read direct it.

If JCY-1000 is connected below option interface Box, its make JRC Original sentence.
Please see as below "How to read JRC Original sentence".

======How to read JRC Original sentence========

====DSD Digital Signal Distributor NQA-4090A=======

Check that dry contact data from DSD is recorded for the following sentences.

0: NORMAL. (In the case of normal close, close contact)
1: ABNORMAL. (In the case of normal close, open contact)
A record cycle is every 20 seconds, when there is no state change.
When there is state change, it is every state change. (MIN.1second)

=======AIU Analog Signal Input Unit NQA-4091A==========

It checks that % value to a range is outputted. Output sentences are as follows.

Each channel is " , G , +99.9(%) , Port number(0 is Port number 1) , "
Carry out variable of the output signal of the sensor that is connected to each input CH.
It checks that the input signal to AIU changes synchronizing with it.

Only when AIU is contained in composition

Ex1: In the case of -10V to +10V range:
+8V = +80%
Ex2: In the case of -20mA to +20mA range:
50-ohm resistance is added.4mA = +20% (0.2V)10mA = +50% (0.5V)

It checks that the value of each item of the following sentences
and the value currently outputted from the sensor are in agreement.

Rudder angle, wind direction, wind speed

Only when NAV is contained in composition Rudder angle + means PORT side, Rudder angle - means STBD side.
The units of rudder angle and wind direction are degree.
The unit of wind speed is m/s.

=================NSK NSK Unit NCT-27=============================

It checks that the value of each item of the following sentences and the value currently outputted from the sensor
are in agreement.

This document is quick reference for data download, so if you need any more detail of the Maintenance, please read
Maintenance operation Manual.

Note for Blackout test of JCY-1000.

When carried out Blackout test for JCY-1000. After passed two hours, its only stop record Capsule.
It’s not shut down. PC unit still running until UPS empty.
Please attention for RECORD Lamp.

Download configuration Data from JCY-1700
Connect PC to JCY-1700 by LAN cable.
1) Double-click the “Maintenance Software” icon.
2) The maintenance software will starts up, and it brings up the Log in Window.

Enter the Name of the Person in charge, Company Name, and Password. “Register Information”
Enter the information of the registrant, which will be recorded onto VDR.
• Name of the person in charge
• Name of the company
As you enter the password, the field appears as a string of “*”.
The password for a service engineer, who is in charge of installation, is “JRCVDR”
Selection of Ethernet Adapter
The maintenance PC automatically detects the built-in Ethernet adapter. Select the Ethernet adapter to be
used for maintenance. If more than one Ethernet adapter exists, select one using the pull-down button [ ⌃].

Many of recent lap top PCs are equipped with not only wired LAN but with wireless LAN as well. Such a PC has two
Ethernet adapters. Select the adapter for the wired LAN.

Click the [Add IP] button and register the IP address for the VDR.
The subnet mask “255.255.255.0” is set automatically.
Click the [OK] button, and the full-fledge maintenance software starts.
Choose the model to maintain from JCY-1700 or JCY-1700S, and click the [OK] button

Download RCU configuration.
Click [RCU] in the “SETUP (C)” menu.

The system configurations of RCU is displayed.

Clicking [ Receive ] button, the maintenance software receives configuration data from the RCU.

Click “Save” in the File menu. The dialog for inputting the name of saved file will be displayed.

Download DAU configuration.
Select [DAU] in the SETUP menu, and then select either DAU1 or DAU2.

The system configurations of DAU is displayed.

Clicking [ Receive ] button, the maintenance software receives configuration data from the DAU.

Click “Save” in the File menu. The dialog for inputting the name of saved file will be displayed.

Download FGB configuration.
Select “FGB” in the SETUP menu. FGB maintenance WEB starts.

Click [Capture1.txt]. The content of the file is displayed on the screen.

Save the file using the file menu in the upper left of the window.

Download Dry-contact configuration.
Click ”Dry Contact” from ”Option (O) “ of Setup (C) menu.

Setup application starts.

Click "Receive" of the "File" menu.

The dialog for transmission and reception of a setup data is displayed.
Click "Save" of the "File" menu.
The dialog for inputting a file name is displayed.

Download Data from capsule TYPE:JCY-1700.
New version Play Back Software is included inside Maintenance Software Ver2.0.0.C.
Please use Latest Software. Please do not use old playback.
If you need stand-alone new version Play Back Software CYC-311.It is available on the JRC Service
web site. Please download & use it for APT. Install Serial number is “JRC-9539-1242”.

Require 100% download from capsules or ATA CARD data to be send JRC by DVD-ROM.
If you Take 100% data from ATA CARD, require small data download from capsule, because need
confirm capsule working.

Download data from VDR/S-VDR by Download software

(1) Select Data (D) – Playback (P) on the Menu.

(2) Click the [DOWNLOAD] button, start the Download software.

(3) Download software screen indicates.

(4) Select a save place with Folder selection button, and then select a playlist.
When download is started, playlists (from playlist1 to playlist10) are created automatically
under the save place.

(5) Set download value with the slide bar.

(6) Input check in the check box of necessary download data and click the [Start] button.
The Setup Folder screen opens, and please input a certain save folder if necessary.
As default, date folder is indicated.

Click the [OK] button, and download starts.

(7) When download starts, download progresses of each data are shown by progress bar.

Set information required for playback with Setup software.
(1) Click the [SETUP] button, and start the Setup software.

(2) The Login screen is indicated, and click the [OK] button after confirming that user is selected
in the Operator block.

(3) The Setup for User screen is indicated.

(4) To import VDR/S-VDR configuration data, select the following file in the download data and
click the [Import] button.

(5) If required, select quantity of engine, rudder, thruster or propeller.

Download configuration Data from JCY-1800/1850
Starting procedure
1) Connect LAN cable for JCY-1800/1850 then load the maintenance software, double click the
“Maintenance Software” icon. The maintenance Software starts and then Login screen will
appear.

Selecting setup system (“Setup Equipment”)

Select a setup system from VDR, S-VDR.
Entering User name, Company name and Password (“Register Information”)
1) Register Information
Enter the following user information, which will be recorded onto the VDR/S-VDR.
• User name
• Company name
2) Password
The entered letters are indicated with asterisks (“******”).
This is the passwaord for field engineer. Type "jrcvdr" all in lowercases.
Selecting Ethernet adapter
The Maintenance software will detect an Ethernet adapter in the PC automatically.
When the PC has more than one Ethernet adapters, select “wired LAN” as an adapter interface to the
VDR/S-VDR using ▼ button.

Many models of recent laptop have not only wired LAN but also
wireless LAN.

 Select “wired LAN” as the interface.

Adding IP address for VDR/S-VDR

Check the IP address and the Subnet mask which are registered to Ethernet adapter.
The IP address for VDR/S-VDR maintenance is added. (192.168.110.200)

The IP address added for VDR/S-VDR maintenance is deleted when

the PC is rebooted.

Login
Click the [Next] button.
After successful login to the VDR/S-VDR, “HOME screen” will appear.

Check & save configuration.

[Installation] buton

To configure the VDR/S-VDR, click the [Installation] button.

The “SYSTEM” screen for the selected system (VDR/S-VDR/RMS) at log-in will appear.

Receiving a configuration data and starting the diagnosis function

Receiving a configuration data of RCU
Receive the configuration parameters from RCU and start the maintenance operation.
1) Click the [Receive] button.

2) Confirm the reception has been completed with the progress bar.

Starting the diagnosis function

The state of VDR/S-VDR system and OK/NG of receiving data are indicated by the color of
“Diagnosis” lamps.
The meaning of each color is:
● (Green): OK
● (Red): NG
● (Orange): The system os under diagnosis

1) Click the [Diagnosis] button.

2) Confirm that the color of

[Diagnosis] button changed to green.
* If the [Diagnosis] button is clicked during the diagnosis function is on, the function will be
stopped.

Need confirm all [Diagnosis] &[Entry] indicate Green.

Save configuration by Report function
When the [Diagnosis] &[Entry] indicate Green , create a set of report files using this function.
Click the [Report] button on the SYSTEM screen.
“Report” screen will appear.

Save report file
When the [Save] button is clicked, report folder is created instantly as RCU serial number
(MBxxxxxx)_VDR_report on the desktop screen.

Save the report file by [Save] button. If necessary, the report file can be renamed and saved.

If the report is saved, save folder, file name and creation date is indicated.

Download Data from capsule TYPE:JCY-1800/1850.
Require 100% download from capsules or CF CARD data to be send JRC by DVD-ROM.
If you Take 100% data from CF CARD, require small data download from capsule, because need
confirm capsule working.

Download data from VDR/S-VDR by Download software

Select Playback icon on the Menu.

Click the [DOWNLOAD] button, start the Download software.

Download software screen indicates.

Select a save place with Folder selection button, and then select a playlist.
When download is started, playlists (from playlist1 to playlist10) are created automatically
under the save place.

Click the [PLAYBACK] button on the “VDR INVESTIGATIVE SOFTWARE” launcher menu.
