ASSIGNMENT NO. 2

Interviewing a Mechanical Engineer

• Interview (Question & Answer)

1. Licensure Exam Preparations (Review)
- I really instilled that I'll aim to be one of the top so that when i fall short it is mostly a
guarantee that i pass. There's nothing wrong with aiming high but it must be coupled
with the grind; these are the actual understanding of theories, memorizing formulas
and solving problems till mastery.

2. Actual Licensure Exam (Board Exam)

- When the day came, I woke up early in order to set a positive momentum and prayed.
Our first exam was PPE and it was the bloody one (among the three). 97 problems
were given and only 3 definition of terms. I just answered first all the easy ones then
proceed to the more time consuming. Nevertheless, when I counted how many of
which I answered it was only 30 items. I got teary eyed thinking how would I be able
to pass this subject. Instead of being down I had no choice but to proceed with all my
knowledge and abilities and just hoped that they will make some adjustments, in which
they did. It was really impossible to answer it that quickly since every problem requires
multiple enthalpies to be solved before arriving to the answer. Therefore, the rest of
the items, and by rest, I mean most of the items, I answered with pure deduction and
elimination. Thankfully the remaining subjects Math/Sciences and Machine Design
went really well in my favor since I am confident, I got at least 70 items correct.

3. On the day before, during and after the Licensure Exam (Feel, emotion)
- The day before the exam, it was really nerve racking. Naturally everyone felt the
same way. During the exam I got confident along the way when I was able to answer
most of the questions. After the board exam, although I am confident overall, there is
still overthinking and especially the thought of making technical errors leading to a
discarded answer sheet due to erasures etc.
4. When he/she passed the licensure exam, what comes on his/her mind? **When
he/she failed the licensure exam, what is his/her expectations at that time and how do
they cope up (If applicable).
- When the results came in It was a huge relief. Like literally I felt my shoulders were
a thousand times lighter than before. I was really glad that many of my peers passed
as well. Also, I felt sorry to those who didn't.

5. Advice to the incoming Mechanical Engineers. Mistakes needs to be avoided.

- My advice to the upcoming Mechanical Engineers is that if this course is not your
passion or at least if you’re not really interested in this field then It would be really
difficult for you to come through, because in my opinion it’s the same with courses like
Medicine and Law in which you should be passionate about. In addition, as I
mentioned earlier there are 3 procedures of preparation: understand theories,
memorize formulas and solve problems, during your college days you should be able
to master the first one: "understanding concepts and theories" because it would save
you a lot of time and effort during the limited time given during review. Lastly, have at
least 1 rest day per week wherein you must not think about the review and do other
stuff like your hobbies, because it really helps to reset the mind in order to maximize
your efficiency. Work hard but wisely.

6. After passing the licensure exam, what comes next?

- After passing the exam I really took a break for a couple of months up to a year max.
because I believe I deserve the award of rest, it would reset my mindset about my
profession in general and I took the time to really find what types of jobs in my field of
M.E. I should pursue or is available.

7. How they apply for work.

- After a couple of months, I started applying for some companies. Although I was in
search for the job that suits me, I just took all the interviews as much as I can in order
to have more choices and to be able to practice and master speaking. Fortunately, I
got in with one of the known companies in our country that suits my abilities and
knowledge even if I’m a fresh graduate.
