About the Chowgule Group

Established in 1916 by Dattajirao Chowgule to manufacture roofing tiles, the company


had by the 1930’s become a well-respected trading establishment in commodities and
consumer goods, led by his sons Vishwasrao and Yashwantrao. By 1950 the ‘Chowgule
Formula’ is signed at the initiative of Vishwasrao Chowgule with the Japanese steel
industry and the group gets capital to establish a mechanized mining operation (the very
first in India!) in Goa and repays through ore sales to Japan. By the turn of the century
the group had expanded into a conglomerate with businesses spanning mining,
pelletisation, shipbuilding, ship repair, shipping, industrial explosives, industrial salt,
industrial gases, cement, textiles, construction chemicals, automobile dealerships,
educational institutes and much more.

Currently the Chowgule Group, through it’s flagship ‘Chowgule and Company Pvt. Ltd.’
owns and operates core businesses of mining, pellets, shipbuilding and salt, while
continuing its important work in the community with the Parvatibai Chowgule College
and the St. Joseph’s School. The Group is led by it’s Chairman and Managing Director
Ms. Padma Chowgule and the members from the 4th generation of the Chowgule family,
who aim to expand and undertake dynamic growth that was the very vision of the
group’s founder.

The Chowgule Group is today focused on commodities and heavy engineering. These
industries are characterised by operations that have long gestations - either in project
development or turnkey order delivery timelines. Sustainable success in these sectors is
dependent on relationships with stakeholders across the value chain that is built
through trust, reliability and adherence to commitments. Our trust and reliability have
won us long standing relationships with the leading names across industries, like
Marubeni Corporation of Japan, Mahindra, Foseco, Sojitz, Asahi Kasei, Godawari Power
& Ispat, Wijnne Barends of Netherlands, Indian Coast Guard etc.
The Group has recently resetarted its pellet plant in Goa, has won a new coal mine in
auction from Government of India and is looking to expand aggressibley in mining space
across commodities. The Group is also looking to leverage its presence in iron ore
mining and oellet production by entering into steel production.

Job Description (objective & purpose of this job)


The role is in Group Strategy team and is exected to specifically focus on pellet plant and steel
business opportunities & strategy, apart from the varying focus on mining and other bsuinesses
of the Group

✓ Conceptualize & implement growth & optimization strategy for the Group and different
businesses, driving outcomes

✓ Develop Strategic Plan for businesses and supporting functions

✓ Conceptualize, plan and drive strategic initiatives across functions - finance, operations,
people, marketing, technology, sustainability, safety etc.

✓ Identify new business opportunities in existing / new businesses and help in


implementation

✓ Programme management, monitoring of centralized initiatives and reports for Group


leadership, for effective reviews

✓ Ensuring uninterrupted and reliable view of business performance, enabling data-based


decision making by senior leadership

✓ Managing relationship with external stakeholders like Investors, Governments,


Regulatory Bodies, Industry Associations etc.

✓ Identification of opportunities for inorganic growth, partnerships, and tie-ups, and


driving the same to conclusion

✓ Integration of business units, standardization of processes and business process re-


engineering

✓ Scanning economic, industrial, and business environment for actionable insights

✓ Collection, collation, and analysis of relevant industry and business data

✓ Building internal culture& external positioning of Innovation, Thought Leadership,


Knowledge Sharing and Data Analytics

✓ Building internal capabilities for business development, marketing, customer


relationship management, etc., for driving growth and profitability

✓ Account planning for key customers / accounts

✓ Governance practices, budgeting, and key internal communication

✓ Policy advocacy, risk management & monitoring
