I. MELC/COMPETENCY: Rounding off numbers to the nearest hundred thousands and millions
II. OBJECTIVES: a. Identify the place value and the value of each digit in a given number
b. Round off whole numbers through hundred thousands and millions
III. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: Rounding off numbers to nearest hundred thousands; millions
Reference: Phoenix Math for the 21st Century Learners 5 (pages 11-15)
IV. PROCEDURE:
A. Readings
Rounding off simply means renaming a quantity to the nearest given place value for
convenience. But before we proceed in rounding numbers, let us recall first the place
value of a digit in this number:
*We name the place value of a digit of a given number starting from the right.
Note:
(2) If the digit to the right of the digit to be rounded off is 5 or greater, then the digit to be
rounded off is added with 1 and the rest of the digits at the right of the digit rounded
off shall be replaced with zeros. Round Up means add 1 to the digit being
rounded off
B. Exercises:
I. Underline the digit in the hundred thousand’s place, then round off each number to the
nearest hundred thousand’s place.

II. Underline the digit in the million’s place, then round off each number to the nearest millions
place.

C. ASSESSMENT/APPLICATION
I. Underline the digit being rounded off ,then round off the number to the indicated place value.
II. Complete the table below by rounding off numbers according to the indicated place value.
I. MELC/COMPETENCY: Uses divisibility rules for 2,5,10 to find the common factors of
numbers
II. OBJECTIVES: a. Identify the common factors of numbers 2,5and 10
b. Determine the divisibility rules for 2,5 and 10
III. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: Divisibility Rules for 2,5 and 10
Reference: Phoenix Math for the 21st Century Learners 5 (pages 56-58)
IV. PROCEDURE
A. Readings
Divisibility rules- easily test if one number can be exactly divided by another number
without having to much calculation.
‘’Divisible By’’ means when you divide one number by another number the result is a
whole number.
To see if a number is divisible by 2, 5 and 10, look and understand the rules below:
Divisible
by: Condition Examples Rule
If the last digit is 84, 76, 178 All numbers ends in 0,2,4,6,8
2 an even number 0,2,4,6,8 are divisible by or even numbers are divisible
2 by 2
If the number 650/5= 130 All numbers ending in 0 and 5
5 ends in 0 or 5 355/5= 71 are divisible by 5
35/7= 5
If the number 20/10=2 All numbers ending in 0 is
10 ends with 0 670/10=67 divisible by 10
60/10=6

IV. PROCEDURE
A. Reading
We already learned from our previous lesson about Divisibility Rules for 2,5 and 10.
Now let’s study about Divisibility Rules for 3,6 and 9.
Condition
Divisible by: Examples/ Rules
The sum of the digits The sum of the digits in 825 (8+2+5=15).
3 of the given number is 15 is divisible by 3 therefore 825 is divisible
divisible by 3. by 3.
If the number is both 72- The last digit is even so it is divisible by 2.
6 divisible by 2 and 3 The sum of 7+2=9, therefore72 is divisible by
3.Hence,72 is divisible by 6.
If the sum of the digits 1,755—1+7+5+5= 18. The sum of the digits is
9 of the given number is 18. Since 18 is divisible by 9, therefore 1755 is
divisible by 9. divisible by 9.
