Adarna (Saknong 199 – 215)

When Don Juan arrived at the Piedras Platas tree, he did not find a bird so he just waited patiently for it
to return.

It was late at night and finally Ibong Adarna arrived. It has already begun to sing along with the changing
color of its feathers.

The melodious song of the bird made him drowsy and almost fell asleep. To prevent it from turning to
stone, he cut his palm with a razor and smeared it with lime.

The bird defiled but the Prince avoided it. The bird is asleep but its eyes are wide open and its leafy
wings are outstretched.

The Prince immediately arrested him and imprisoned him in a cage and took him to the hermit's hut.

Pedro at Don Juan (Saknong 216 – 225)
The hermit instructed Don Juan to take the jar and fill it with water so that his brothers who had turned
to stone could become human again.

The Prince followed the hermit. Don Juan first poured Don Pedro and he came to life again and
immediately kissed the youngest brother.

Next, he poured Don Diego. As the eldest prince did, he immediately embraced Don Juan.

They hugged happily but it was immediately erased by the memory of the sick father. The three princes
went to the hermit's hut.
Ibong Adarna Buod Kabanata 9: Ang Katotohanan
(Saknong 226 – 256)

The hermit prepared delicious meals for the three prince


brothers.
After the feast the old man took a mysterious bottle and
rubbed it on Don Juan's palm and he was immediately
healed.
Don Juan asked the hermit for a blessing on their departure.
While crossing the path back to the palace, the previous Don
Juan was unaware that Don Pedro in the background was
plotting evil against him and convinced Don Diego to kill Don
Juan.
At first he strongly refused but later agreed but he said,
instead of killing him, he would just beat him. Poor Don Juan
was left stunned.
Ibong Adarna Buod Kabanata 10: Kasakiman ni Don
Pedro at Don Diego (Saknong 257 – 275)

Don Pedro and Don Diego have returned with the adarna bird. The sick King was very happy and kissed
the two treacherous princes but the smile on his lips immediately disappeared when he noticed that
Don Juan was not there.

He was very jealous of the loss of his youngest and just wanted to die. Ibong adarna, on the other hand,
disfigured and did not want to sing anymore because the traitor who brought him home.

The King's illness worsened as he recalled the reason why he was ill. Ibong adarna hopes that the real
owner is still alive and that the King will find out about the treachery committed by the two brothers.
Ibong Adarna Buod Kabanata 11: Panaghoy ni Don
Juan (Saknong 276 – 318)
The miserable prince was left crawling. His whole body was swollen, his ribs were lame, and he was
about to die of hunger and thirst.

He had no choice but to pray to the dear virgin that her life would be prolonged and that her ailing
father would be healed.

He still could not believe that the two princes had betrayed him. He was ready to give the bird to them if
that was what they wanted.

In the midst of his misery he refreshed Berbanya and the queen mother out of longing.

Juan (Saknong 319 – 339)

A hermit suddenly appeared. He saw Don Juan lying on the ground. He treated the prince once again.

Its wounds disappeared like magic. Don Juan was very grateful to the hermit and kissed him.

The prince wanted to reciprocate but refused because, according to him, it was a form of charity.

The hermit told Don Juan to return to Berbanya to rescue the King and he immediately complied.
