Appliance does not attempt to send email reports to the Call Home server.
36. Leave the Enable Proxy Server unchecked (default) and Enable Proxy
Tunneling (checked) at their default settings.
Note: If you were performing this configuration on a real NetBackup Appliance, after
you have entered all the necessary information, Veritas recommends that you
click Test Call Home to verify communication with the Veritas AutoSupport servers.
If the test fails, check that you have entered all names, IP addresses, and port
numbers correctly. If the test fails again, contact Veritas Technical Support. For this
lab, Call Home is not supported.
37. After you have entered all the necessary information, click Next.
There may be a delay here and you may be sent back to this same page with a
“Failed to disable Call Home” error. If this occurs, ensure the Call Home check box is
still unchecked and click on Next again.
Note: Under normal circumstances, you would be asked to complete
the Registration page information used to register an Appliance with Veritas over
the Internet using information similar to that found in the table below.
Note: Registration of a NetBackup Appliance helps to make sure that you are alerted
to product updates and other important information about your Appliance.
Field Setting
City Roseville

41. Review the information shown to you on the NetBackup Catalog tab, leaving
the NetBackup Catalog size at its default size of 5GB and then click
the AdvancedDisk tab.
Note: On the Storage Configuration page, you can edit the default names for the
storage units and the disk pools that you plan to use, and configure the size of the
disk partitions for those disk pools. You can configure the storage partitions for the
NetBackup Catalog, AdvancedDisk, Deduplication (MSDP), or for all the partitions if
you have enough available storage.
Note: When you are performing the initial configuration of the Appliance you are
first shown the NetBackup Catalog tab. This tab shows you the defaults for the
NetBackup Catalog and lets you set the size of the NetBackup catalog partition on
the master server. This tab appears only for the Appliances that are configured as a
master server.
Note: The AdvancedDisk tab allows you to change the Storage Unit Name, the Disk
Pool Name, and the Size of the AdvancedDisk partition. For this lab the
AdvancedDisk partition should be set to 0 GB.
43. When you have finished reviewing the AdvancedDisk information click
the MSDP tab.
44. Review the information shown to you on the MSDP tab.
Note: The MSDP tab also allows you to change the Storage Unit Name, the Disk
Pool Name, and the Size of the MSDP partition. For this lab the MSDP partition
should be set to 0 GB.
45. When you have finished reviewing the MSDP information, accept all of the
storage defaults at this time by clicking Next.
Note: After you click Next, the role configuration process starts the storage
initialization. Depending on the number of disk drives in the system, the storage
initialization can take up to 46 hours to complete depending on the Appliance type
and storage options. Your configuration time in our lab environment will be
substantially less. You will be configuring storage in another lab.
Note: Examine the results to make sure that the configuration completed
successfully.
Note: On the Configuration Progress page, you can monitor the progress of the
Appliance as it applies all of the data input from the configuration pages. The
amount of time for the configuration to complete varies and depends on the
complexity of your environment.
Note: This page also identifies any errors that may have occurred. You may need to
perform the initial configuration again if errors appear in the results.
47. After the configuration has completed successfully, click Finish to complete the
configuration process.
48. Close the web browser to end this web session and then wait about 10 minutes
for the NetBackup services to restart.
In this lab exercise you will add support for a NetBackup 5340 as a media server to the
configuration using the Appliance Web Console.
Before you configure a new Appliance for the Media server role, you must first update the
configuration on the master server that you plan to use with it. The changes allow for appropriate
communication between the master server and the new media server.
Note: If the Appliance has more than one host name, you must add all the names.
In the steps that follow , you will add the console and nb5340 media server host to the list of
known hosts on the nb5240 master server.
2. Enter the ping command to verify that the production network interface is up
and available.
Note: You should be able to successfully ping the 5240 Appliance on its production
interface. If you can successfully ping the production interface on 5240, then
continue on with this lab. If the ping fails, seek assistance.
3. From the console.example.com desktop, launch the Mozilla Firefox Web
Browser and enter the URL of the eth1 interface that you just configured on the
5240.
https://10.10.2.25
Note: This is expected because we are connecting via the production interface (eth1)
for the first time.
8. From the NetBackup Appliance Web Console click Manage and then
select Additional Servers.
11. Repeat the process in steps 9 and 10 to add the console host to the server list.
That FQDN is console.example.com. Add the short names also.
Additional Servers Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) & Short Name

12. Note: It would not be necessary to add the console server to the server list on the
master if we were only using it for the NetBackup Administration console. However,
in this lab environment, console.example.com is also an OpsCenter server and
therefore needs permission to collect information from the master server Appliance.
13. Once all of the hosts have been added to the master server, log out of the
Appliance Web Console using the Logout link in the upper right-hand corner.
In this lab exercise you will configure a NetBackup 5340 Appliance that is new or has been reset
to the factory defaults (Factoryreset). A NetBackup 5340 Appliance can only be configured as a
media server.
Performing the initial configuration on a NetBackup 5340 Appliance from the NetBackup
Appliance Shell Menu
1. On the console sytem, launch the PuTTY application by clicking on the shortcut
located on the console desktop.
2. Select the nb5340.example.com (Unconfigured) saved session and click Load.
3. Click Open.
Note: Do not use the nb5340 saved session at this time as this references the
production interface, which has not yet been configured.
4. Log into this appliance using the default username and password.
Note: Remember that the username is admin and the default password
is P@ssw0rd .
5. After you log on, the Appliance Shell Menu welcome message appears in the
shell menu and the prompt is at the Main_Menu view.
Note: This next step is not required as you have DNS already configured on the
console.example.com host. There are multiple ways of performing the same task and
you will have a choice of tools to select from when configuring hosts at your site.
From the Appliance Shell Main_Menu view, type Network and then Enter. Add the
IP addresses of the other hosts that are a part of your environment to the Appliance
hosts file, where IPAddress is the IPv4 or IPv6 address, FQHN is the fully qualified
host name, and ShortName is the short host name.
6. Use the following command, Hosts Add, to add host entries to the hosts file on
your appliance.
7. From the Appliance Shell Network view, configure the IP address of a single
network that you want your Appliance to connect to for backup purposes.
8. From the Appliance Shell Network view, use the following command to set the
host name for your Appliance.
You will be provided with information about when short name vs. FQDN is used in
Appliance interfaces and prompted to continue. Type yes to continue.
With this step, NetBackup is re-configured to operate with the new host name. This
process may take a while to complete. For the command Hostname Set to work, at
least one IPv4 address is required, which was previously set up.
9. From the Appliance Shell Network view, type the following command to add
the DNS name server to your Appliance configuration.
10. From the Appliance Shell Network view, type the following command to add a
DNS search domain to your Appliance configuration so the Appliance can resolve
the host names that are in different domains:

19. From the Main_Menu > Appliance view, run the following command to identify
the master server that you want to use with this media server.
Media nb5240.example.com
Be careful when performing this step. The Media command requires the name of
your MASTER server as an argument. Make sure you are specifying the name of
your MASTER server here (nb5240.example.com)
20. When asked if you trust the CA Certificate from the master server, answer yes.
Note: The following page contains some of the output that appears when you enter
this command.
Note: After you set the role configuration, the disk storage prompts appear for the
AdvancedDisk and MSDP partitions.
21. When prompted to enter a size for the AdvancedDisk partition and the MSDP
partitions, press enter (accept default 5 GB) as the size for both partitions.
24. Type no to keep the current configuration when a summary of the storage
configuration appears.
Do you want to make changes to the storage configuration shown above? [yes,
no]
The following page contains the output that appears after accepting this storage
configuration.
25. Exit the PuTTy session.
In this exercise, you will access both the 5240 and the 5340 Appliance and verify that the
configuration was successful using the Appliance Shell Menu.
2. On the console, launch the PuTTy application by clicking on the shortcut located
on the console desktop.
3. Select the nb5340.example.com saved session and click Load.

23. Enter the following command to view the Appliance hostname to IP address
mapping information that was set as a result of performing the configuration.
Hosts Show
Exit
Note: You will see some differences in the output of these commands when run on
the 5240. For example, the hosts show command will return less output because we
entered fewer items in the 5240’s hosts file during configuration.
In this exercise, you perform the steps to launch the NetBackup 8.2 Administration Console and
login to your 5240 master server Appliance system. You then confirm that you have access to the
master server (nb5240) and the media server (nb5340).
Note: Since this is the first time the console server has connected to this master
server Appliance, a security certificate may be needed. Because the console server is
recognized and trusted by the master server (recall that we added it to the SERVER
list earlier in this lab) the master server may offer the consoler server a digital
certificate, as shown in figure that follows. The security certificate window may not
appear at this time. This is not a problem and will not affect the rest of the lab.
Note: In NetBackup 2.7.3/7.7.3 and later it is mandatory to have a security certificate
when connecting to a NetBackup host through the NetBackup Administration
Console or the Java Backup, Archive, and Restore user interface. A NetBackup host
security certificate is issued by the NetBackup Certificate Authority (CA) on the
NetBackup master server. Had the console server not been known to the master
server, the connection would have been refused. Refer to the NetBackup
Administrator’s Guide, Volume I for information about NetBackup hosts’ security
certificates and deploying these certificates.
Note: The NetBackup Administration Console window title bar contains the host
name of the NetBackup master server that you have logged in to, and the
NetBackup software version running on that system.
6. Click on the Activity Monitor node in the left-hand pane and review any recent
job activity.
Note: Note that test backups and restores have been run on both the 5240 master
server and the 5340 media server Appliances. This is part of the configuration
process and verifies that the Appliances are fully functional.
7. In the left-hand pane of the Administration Console, select Reports and then
select Images on Media.
8. Click the Run Report button to run the Images on Media report.
9. Exit the NetBackup Administration Console.
Note: The report will return a message stating no entities were found. Although test
backups were performed, the images were automatically expired afterwards.
Exercise G: Viewing software emails
In the next steps, you will access and use the email system used on the console.example.com
host to view the configuration mail sent to the software administrator after completing the
configuration of the Appliances.
After the configuration of the Appliance has been completed, emails are sent to both the
hardware and the software administrator’s email address that you entered during the Alerting
and Call Home portion of the configuration process.
Note: Because we are using virtual machines to simulate Appliances in this lab environment, no
hardware emails will be sent and therefore there will be no emails to review in the hardware
administrator’s email account in this lab. Software alerts will be sent out and may be viewed as
normal
4. Once logged into the mail system, access the Inbox for the software
administrator by clicking on the Inbox mailbox shown in the resulting display.
5. Review the emails in the software administrator’s Inbox.
6. Once you have reviewed all the software administrator emails, log out of the
mail system.
End of Lab
You have completed all the intended steps for this lab activity.
