Decision making is one of the hardest parts of life.

Various items must be taken into

account like who will benefit, what will it cost, and who will be in charge. A leader/project
manager needs to be able to make decisions that will ultimately be correct. This comes from
experience, training, and mentoring.
With over thirty years in the business world, I have had many positions where decision
making was a prime concern. It could cost money, time and customer approval if a wrong
decision was made. When first starting out, there were poor decisions made, but learning from
them they were never made again. Being asked to be a leader is a frightening prospect and I had
to remember to ask questions about a process I did not understand in order to make the correct
decision.
In my Introduction to Organizational Leadership, OGL 200 at ASU, I had to pick a
leadership style and explain it. The leadership style was authoritative, which is a style that makes
decisions. Even now this paper makes me aware of how to assess the situations and make the
best decision. By showing how his decision influenced the outcome, it conveys how making
good, informed decisions are crucial. In this case his decisions could cost lives.

Decision making is imperative in being an organizational leader or project manager.

Without a decision being made the company will be in disarray and floundering. By having the
information, experience and training to make decisions, it will in the final analysis become clear
if the right decision was made. Being a mentor is a great way to pass on your experience and
wisdom. The best leader is always learning how to be even better.
By having the tools to assist in making me a better leader, it has given me confidence in
taking that step. I have been putting myself into more leadership positions. I have also been
mentoring others to help them in their goals. Every class that is required for my degree has been
a tremendous help. They educate and empower me to make the best decisions I can.
