Quiz 1: dominant leadership style

It is my belief that a combination of Autocratic and democratic leadership styles is one of

the key features of my form of leadership. A combination of autocratic and democratic
leadership styles is often referred to as a benevolent autocracy or autocratic democracy. This
style combines the decision-making power of an autocratic leader with the participation and
input of a democratic leader. In this style, the leader makes the final decision, but also
encourages and values input from team members and allows for some degree of participation in
the decision-making process. This approach can be effective in situations where quick decisions
need to be made, but also allows for input and buy-in from team members.

My personality has played a crucial role in the choice of a leadership style. Firstly, I
consider myself more of an introverted person than an outgoing one. As a result, I feel
comfortable applying autocratic leadership. Nonetheless, I value team building and the role
strong teams play in ensuring the success of an organization. Additionally, I am very keen to
ensure worker welfare is attained. As a result, I often value the views of my coworkers from my
superiors to my subordinates. Moreover, I am more of a perfectionist thus I value improved
efficiency in policy and decision adoption. As a result, I have to consider the views of other
workers to achieve buy-in. These views have determined my choice of leadership style.

I have applied this style in several situations. Firstly, when in a complex decision-making
process. As a leader, at times one is faced with complex situations where the decisions are made
by the top leadership. In this case, I often collect views from workers and then analyze them to
inform my final decision. Secondly, when I find my team has conflicting goals and priorities. I
usually make the final decisions which are informed by the members' inputs used to develop a
compromise and accommodate everyone. This often improves the efficiency of my teams.

There are several benefits that attributed to my choice of a leadership style. Firstly, the
leadership style fosters improved efficiency and participation. The autocratic style allows for
quick and decisive decision-making, while the democratic style allows for participation and input
from team members. This balance can lead to more efficient and effective decision-making.
Secondly, the combination improves buy-in and commitment. When team members are involved
in the decision-making process, they are more likely to understand and support the decisions that
are made. This can lead to higher levels of buy-in and commitment to the goals of the
3

organization. Moreover, the style allows one to Leverage expertise. By allowing team members
to participate in the decision-making process, leaders can tap into the knowledge and expertise of
the team. This can lead to more informed and effective decisions. However, one key challenge
has been to understand the situation and know when to use which style. Often an overuse or
misuse of either style can be detrimental.

Quiz 2: learning style

Personally, I learn well through listening and observing. In simple terms, I can be
classified as a visual and auditory learner. Visual learners often benefit from using diagrams,
pictures, and videos to help them understand new information. Auditory learners often benefit
from listening to lectures, podcasts, and audio recordings. Combining these two learning styles,
such as watching and listening to educational videos, can also be effective. With the current
demand for understanding the airline industry, this learning style is critical in improving my
skills and understanding new innovations focused on improving the airline industry.

In pursuit of gaining expertise and an understanding, I often apply visual and auditory
learning in several situations. I employ visual learning in diverse ways. Firstly, I often use
different color codes in highlighting and emphasizing important information. This enables me to
focus on the points when coming back to read again. Additionally, in complex systems, I often
employ mind maps to organize information in a hierarchy. This enables me to understand how
any system functions and the key areas of focus. They also enable me to develop better
strategies. Lastly, I am very keen when and can easily notice eye-catching information thus often
understand visual aids better than reading books. As a result, I employ visual aids to analyze and
understand information. For instance, I often apply graphs when analyzing data to understand
situations better. On the other hand, I employ auditory learning in several ways. When in need of
information on certain topics of interest, I often search for podcasts under the related topic, listen
and take notes. This helps me to retain information better. Additionally, in school, I value group
discussion. These discussions have been very instrumental in improving my learning. They aid in
processing information easily thus better information retention. Moreover, I value being present
during lectures to listen to what the lecturer says and as a question on confusing points. Listening
to recorded lectures also rhymes well with my learning style. The combination of the two
learning styles has been very instrumental in improving my learning.

Combining visual and auditory learning can be beneficial in closing skill gaps within a
team because it allows for a more comprehensive and engaging learning experience. The visual
component can help learners see and understand concepts, processes, and systems in a clear and
tangible way, while the auditory component can provide additional information, context, and
6

instruction. By combining the two methods, I receive the information in a way that is most
effective, leading to a more efficient and effective learning process. Lastly, combining visual and
auditory learning can also help learners retain the information better and for a longer period of
time.
