The Air Conditioning and Mechanical Contractors Association(AMCA) is a peak industry body
representing companies across Australia. AMCA is the only industry association of
employers which is exclusively dedicated to serving the needs of the companies in the air
conditioning and mechanical services industry.
With its origins back in the early 1960’s, AMCA exists to represent, promote and safeguard
the interests of its member companies by influencing the commercial environment in which
they operate, by promoting high standards of competence, and by providing quality advice
and guidance on all aspects of their business.
Our membership base includes large and small, metropolitan and regional companies who
specialise in contracting, service and maintenance work. AMCA members are responsible for
approximately 85% of all air conditioning and mechanical services contracting in the non-
residential construction sector.
AMCA is active representing the industry in policy issues pursued by government and other
industry bodies.
AMCA is a leading-edge industry training provider. Our aim is to provide quality industry
training programs which directly respond to current industry requirements in a timely and
cost-effective manner.

Those who will gain most are learners who have had experience managing
small to medium projects. Theory and practical learning sessions are
supported by the extensive use of industry case studies. These case studies
reinforce course work while enriching communications, leadership and
decision-making skills. This enables those with an early exposure to
Target Audience and Level construction, service and facilities management to very quickly increase
their skills so they can take on bigger and more challenging work with
confidence.
Learners must have at least three years’ experience in a project
management environment and must be currently working in a project
manager role to successfully complete this program.
The AMCA Managing for Profit program exposes those responsible for
managing cost centre’s to systematic strategies for achieving better and
more profitable outcomes. Course work covers aspects of management
including planning, OHS, risk assessment, Human Resource Management
(HRM), productivity improvements, scheduling, communication,
negotiation skills and environmental management.
Real Experience with Real Professionals
Managers will value the skills they learn by sharing experiences with their
peers and other professionals in the field. Through their involvement each
Learning Outcome
person participates in multi-disciplinary course activities with specialist
trainers and industry personnel who have diverse experience.
A Quick Payback for Companies
Learners benefit from the immediate payback the program provides. It is
recommended that learners decide on their personal action plans and
goals prior to beginning the program. Examples of such goals include the
learner’s skill requirements for improving cost control and on time
completion of jobs. Other examples may be techniques for recognising
when variations and extensions of time are needed to protect profitability.

This course is made up of six online modules. Each Module can be completed
Course Duration
in 1 – 2 hours.
To provide the best possible air conditioning to clients, the air conditioning
system needs to be balanced. However, even if a system is properly and
correctly balanced it will not meet the heating and cooling requirements of a
building if the system is too small or the ductwork is sized incorrectly. This
course has been developed for service technicians and balancing and
commissioning supervisors and aims to increase their understanding of
principles of heat and cooling load calculations:
Course Overview • Defining human comfort conditions
• Psychrometric definitions and architecture of the psychrometric
chart
• Computer based programs used to calculate heat and cooling loads
• The principles of equal friction duct sizing methods
• Conversion of duct sizes to accommodate installation into spaces
that differ from the architectural design
• Refrigeration Mechanic
• Drafting Trainee (Air conditioning and Mech Services)
Target Audience and Level
• Service Technician
• Trainee and Post Trades
Learners will preferably have trade training in mechanical plumbing or the air
conditioning stream of refrigeration or extensive practical experience in the

air conditioning industry along with recommendations to complete the course
by employer or supervisor
Resolve the provisions of the Building Code of Australia, AS1682 and A1851 as
