4th Quarter Lab Activities (Science 7)

Activity 1 DAILY WEATHER

Objective:
To keep track of the weather changes

Procedure
1. Listen to the daily weather forecasts for 1 week (April 25-May 1)
2. List down the weather system that is expected to prevail during each day.
You can make a table here.

Question for Analysis

What kind of weather is expected in the prevailing weather system?

Activity 2 TORNADO OCCURS

Objective
To illustrate how tornado occurs

Materials

1.5 L plastic bottle

Water
Food color (Any color)

Procedure

1. Fill a 1.5 L plastic bottle with water.

2. Add a drop of food color to the water.
3. Cover and shake the bottle until the color is thoroughly mixed with the water.
4. Hold the two ends of the bottle and whirl it.
5. Take a video while performing the activity. Upload it in our google classroom (class
stream).

Activity 3 Eclipses

Objectives
1. Demonstrate how eclipses occur using prototype models of Earth, the Sun, and the
Moon
2. Identify the positions of Earth, the sun, and the moon during solar and lunar eclipses.

Materials

● Light source (flashlight)

● Cardboard box
● Piece of cardboard that is slightly wider than the cardboard box
● White wall or cloth to serve as screen
● Sheet of bond paper

Procedure

1. On one side of the cardboard box, make a circular hole that is 6 cm in diameter.
2. On the piece of cardboard, make a circular hole that is 6 cm in diameter.
3. Position a table a few meters away from the screen.
4. On the table, set up the rest of the materials following the diagram below.

5.
6. Switch on the flashlight to project a beam of light that will produce an image on the
screen.
7. Slowly move the cut-out circle across the cardboard with a circular hole.
8. Observe the images that you produce on the screen as you move the cut-out circle
across the cardboard’s circular hole. Try to create different images with at least five
different positions of the circular hole.
9. On the bond paper, draw the images you formed on the screen.
10. Take a photo of your set-up and images. Place it in a short bond paper and please label
accordingly.
Guide Questions

1. Describe the images formed on the screen as the circle is moved across the hole.

Application
1. What are the conditions that have to be present for a solar eclipse and a lunar
eclipse to occur?

2. Will there be a solar eclipse during a full moon? Why or why not?
