Recommended 'Procedures when using Screened Separable Bolted Tee
Connector Test Leads
VI/hen testing equipment fitted with separable connector bushings it is important to use proper test leads and
dead end devices and pay attention to the following recommendations.

1) Whilst not in use the separable connector on the test lead should be dead ended with an insulating
plug with stud and cap and the lead stored in as clean an area as possible.
2) Prior to use the air termination end should be wiped clean of any contaminant (dust etc) using a clean
damp cloth.
3) Pay attention to cleanliness throughout Do not let the surface silicone grease accumulate dirt.
4) Remove the protective shipping cap from the bushing to be tested .
5) Ensure the bushing is clean with a fresh coat of silicone grease applied.

IMPORTANT - Under no circumstances substitute the silicone grease supplied for other lubricants.
6) Remove the 'Dead End Plug' from the test lead and check that the entrance port is clean with a layer
of silicone grease.
7) Install the separable connector and rotate it from side to side to evenly distribute the silicone grease.
Push it firmly against the bushing and position it finally such that it does not carry other than its own
weight and neither is it bent.
8) If a clamping screw is being used (typically 400 series) install it now and tighten to the recommended
torqt.:e.
9) Ensure the insulating plug and entrance port of the bolted tee is clean and lightly coated with silicone
grease. Lay the 'air bleed rod' along the interface of the bolted tee and i~stall th~ insulating plug.
Tighten t9) the recommended torque and then pull the bleed rod free. This exercise prevents a,r
entrapment inside the connector. -- - - -
io) 'Mienever realistic leave the tett leads to settle overnight prior to testing.

c)
Lubricate the cable adaptor and inside the Bolted T housing with the silicone grease.
Slide the cable into the body of the Bolted T housing until the cable cannot advance further
Twist the two earthing wires together and pass them through
the earthing eye.

SHRINK TUBE

d) Position the shrink tube so its butts against the shoulder of the cable adaptor.
Proceed to shrink down the tube.

a) Clean and lubricate the equipment bushing and the mating entrance of the Bolted T connector. Use only the
silicone grease provided.
b) Offer up the connector to the bushing and push on.
c) Insert the long threaded end of the clamping screw through the hole in the palm of the Lug / Connector and
engage the thread in the bushing, take care not to cross thread.
d) Tighten the clamping screw to a torque of 50Nrn using a 22 mm socket spanner. _ _ _
e) Clean and lubricate the insulating plug or ono interface of Lile connecting plug if being used.
f) lnsei-1tr1e respective plug and engage the mating thread on the bushing stud, and hand tighten.
g) If fitting a connecting plug use an 10mm hex key and torque to 45Nm.
h) Apply a torque of 40Nm the 24mm hex nut (test point) on tile insulating plug .
i) Finally push on the protective cap over the test point.
