When referring to group decision making, both creativity and effectiveness can
substantially benefit from a combination of experiences and perspectives. Objectively, it
is more likely that a team is able to achieve much greater results than an individual
working independently. Strong teamwork will often directly translate to an increase in
productivity as well as performance. So, when it comes to decision making in groups, it
is very important that the group feels as if the decision accurately represents their
thoughts and opinions.
Referring to chapter 11 of the textbook, there are a number of advantages with
group decision making. The first advantage is the ability to involve a variety of different
perspectives and ideas, often associated with diversity amongst the group. This is very
important when considering creative options and directional vision. Another benefit is
reducing the possibility of a biased decision. Often, a leader is more inclined to arrive at
a conclusion based on their own experiences, but when a team is able to weigh their
options more clearly, you further decrease the chances of that happening. Lastly, team
decision making is great for members to learn about one another through intellectual
stimulation, as option discussions are a very effective way to introduce each other’s
backgrounds and experiences in their fields.
However, there are still disadvantages that factor into decision making. One
disadvantage is that team conflict is a natural struggle that teams must work through.
When individuals are in a position to agree to things that they may not necessarily agree
with, conflict arises and it is very important that the individuals are able to resolve those
differences in opinion. Another disadvantage is that more time may be required to arrive
at decisions. One last disadvantage is called Groupthink. Groupthink is an issue that
many individual team members struggle with, as it is the avoidance of objection towards
what the majority of the group favours. This is unhealthy for the group as often these
individuals feel separate from their group, as their opinions are also separate from the
group.

When it is about the company and the group dynamics inside the company it's always
about the people inside working for the company. So the group dynamics inside the
company when in terms of making the right decision rely on gut feeling and intuition.
Otherwise, it’s difficult to reach to consensus over issues and difficult to make the best
decision. So settling them the best practice is to find a middle ground and settle issues
beforehand. In group decisions, it's best to find the right issues first and prioritize them.
In the end, there is always the diversity that comes up with the most disagreements and
the best solution.

At SNC LAVALIN the goal is to predict the future and using the know-how to design the
best future. As a company, they center all the knowledge and make the connections of
their employees and work towards a singular goal, “To predict the future and deliver
sustainable future”. For the entire lifespan of their project, they bring together people to
work independently and coagulate into the group behavior to work together. At SNC
they don’t embrace the change they bring the change.

Using the lean model to bring the change by utilizing the big data, modeling data
enabling them to lead the industry and meeting the “needs”. By providing solutions to
counter climate change and problems of the future to effectively deal with them. Their
engineering solutions utilize AI data and use the proper know-how to aid humans in
decision-making and get the job done accurately. The all-in-all purpose is to bring value
to the clients and pass them the data.

The team collaboration that it took to get projects done and survive in the industry is
their determination and spontaneous group mechanisms. They hire the brightest minds
to manage their projects and their industry is on the oil gas mining and construction. As
a company, they also have gone through acquisitions and partnerships with Bombardier
in the 1990s and have conducted construction projects in different parts of the world.
How they acquire projects and their decision-making capability to take on the projects
based on their know-how. They produce the best outcomes by bringing the best minds
and conducting group discussions and meetings.
In the Creative decision-making scenario, they use the group dynamics and get
together to state their problem. The trust they get on the morality of the group member's
moral obligations. The pressure situation that arises in the tentative situations and to
counter their usage of group thinking and activities and their valuable time to using
cooperate for making the best decision. Their project selection method is to work with
the ideas and selecting the best for the effective productivity of the overall team. The
reaching to the consensus through the voting and selecting the majority. But reaching
through the consensus and get support for ideas and making the significance of the
idea very clear is the way. Another consideration for taking the decision is the ethics of
the company application. The honor code and the breaking of any law is a worthwhile
consideration to take. Breaking and tricking the group or organization rule and trust is
an offense and needs to take seriously and performing group activity in the best
possible way is of utmost importance.
