BREEDING PLAN FOR CAWAYAN NATIVE CHICKEN

Breeding Objectives:

After series of mating of two distinct native chickens, breeder is expected to:
1. Produce native chicken strain to be a flagship chicken of the locality.
2. To produce meat type chicken that is superior in terms of taste, meat texture, less fat
and feed conversion efficiency.

Breeding Materials:

Chicken Breed: Darag (Female Parent)

Characteristics: Prominent yellowish-brown plumage for females and shiny red for males,
black tail feathers, and grey shanks. Best known for its unique flavor, taste, and
meat texture. They are moderately prolific and a ready source of inexpensive
meat and eggs.

Chicken Breed: Paroakan (Male Parent)

Characteristics: It is one of the bigger native chicken breeds in the country and that means
plenty of poultry meat once they have matured. The Paraoakan native chickens
are generally characterized by their bigger bodies, long legs, a long neck as well
as a bigger head. The Paraoakan native chickens are valued for their flavours,
aroma, structure and even the tenderness of the meat. The Paraoakan native
chickens are known to produce the best meat quality with the highest crude
protein content.

Breeding Result: The progency of this breeding is composed of 37.5% Darag and
62.5 Paroakan. It has a characteristic of being a prolific chicken with
excellent bodyweight and carcass is tender and aromatic.
