REASON WHY THIS BREED STILL EXIST According to its history, this breed still exists
because it was considered as a lard pig and was
highly prized. It took a lot of time and energy to
raise them, but their super-light, easily melting
lard was well worth it. Hungarian geneticist
stepped in to save these special creatures.

REASON WHY THIS BREED STILL EXIST Kolbroek pigs are known for being popular in local
pig breeders because, It forms part of national
assets, which are being conserved to maintain the
breed genetically pure. It contributes to poverty
alleviation, as a protein source and a South African
indigenous pig breed that have valuable traits, like
longevity, disease tolerance and adaptability to
harsh environmental conditions in addition to its
contributions to food security. They also have been
recommended as good alternative sources of protein
that can provide additional income especially for
local rural farmers.

Economic value As a result, the number of breeders and pigs that have been
tested have shown a decreasing tendency. All these issues
necessitate the breeding of profitable sows with excellent
reproductive performance that produce offspring with high
growth potential and good carcass quality.

characteristics of that because the favorable weather
conditions such as cold weather. And because of its thick
skin it could live for a long time in cold weather.
