CYCLE
CHILDREN’S CHARACTERISTICS:
● They have imagination.
● They are physically active.
● They are interested in working in groups.
● They body is forming.
IMPLICATIONS FOR THE TEACHER:
● The teacher should propose imaginative activities to draw, speak, write about
something they create.
● The teacher should propose to relax and also proactive activities and TPR activities
(Total Physical response activities).
● The teacher should stimulate children to work and share things with other students.
● The teacher should use activities that enable children to use their energies and
activities that allow to develop their special abilities.
2ND CYCLE
CHILDREN’S CHARACTERISTICS:
They have:
● Good social relationships conception and fellowship.
● Unstable personality.
● More autonomy.
● Greater knowledge about vocabulary and language.
IMPLICATIONS FOR THE TEACHER:
Teacher should:
● Know each student individually.
● Promote personal and group work.
● Give them time to explain themselves.
● Provide them with tools to improve their abilities in language.
3RD CYCLE
CHILDREN’S CHARACTERISTICS:
● They have a great imagination.
● They are sensitive and able to resolve issues of fairness.
● They are able to enjoy cooperative and competitive games.
● They are increasingly able to think abstractly.
● They are expressive and talkative.
● They show interest in reading independently.
IMPLICATIONS FOR THE TEACHER:
● The teacher should propose imaginative activities so the children can draw, speak,
write about something they create.
● The teacher should build group working to lessons, activities and projects.
● The teacher should encourage their developing sense of fairness and of right and
wrong.
● The teacher should give regular encouragement and reinforcement for both effort and
results.
● The teacher should encourage students to verbalize their thinking to make
discussions, debates and so on more productive.
● The teacher should include time to independent reading and writing.

CHILDREN’S CHARACTERISTICS (8YEAROLD STUDENTS)
● They are not ignorant.
● They have a short term memory (they forget things easily). Grammar structures, for
example.
● They have a short span of concentration (they are able to work for a short time).
● They are in the stage of concrete thought; they learn by doing.
● They are physically active.
IMPLICATIONS FOR LANGUAGE TEACHING:
● Take children’s previous knowledge into consideration.
● Recycle learning frequently.
● Activities should be short and varied.
● Use the language to do things (playing, drawing, performing…).
● Use physical activities (Total Physical Response→ activities, action games).
