Control and Power Technology 2 - Repeat PLC Assignments

Upload a single Word document containing your solutions to Assignments 1 to 4 below. Refer to
Nigel Flynn’s PLC Lab Moodle page: https://2020.elearning.ait.ie/course/view.php?id=2749 when
completing these assignments. User guides and class recording videos are available on that
Moodle page.

Assignment 1:

1. Access the VlabLive using the instructions on Moodle (tips: ensure you have 'good' internet
connection, after opening vlablive wait 5 minutes to allow time for boot-up, be patient!).
2. Build the simple Ladder logic (switch & motor) using the step by step guide in the TIA
Beginners guide section on Moodle.
3. Label the switch and motor with your name e.g switch_nigel and motor_nigel.
4. Take a picture or screenshot or snipping tool pic of this.
5. Insert the image into your solutions document.

Assignment 2:

1. Access the VlabLive using the instructions on Moodle (tips: ensure you have 'good' internet
connection, after opening vlablive wait 5 minutes to allow time for boot-up, be patient!)
2. Open the Ladder logic using the step by step guide in the TIA Beginners guide section on
Moodle
3. In the ladder logic, create network 1 with a n/o contact and an output (same as assignment
1)
4. Add network 2 with a n/c contact and an output.
5. Add a network 3 with both a n/o and a n/c contact and an output on the same rung.
6. Test the operation of the networks.
7. Take a picture or screenshot or snipping tool pic of this.
8. Insert the image into your solutions document.

Assignment 3:

1. Access the VlabLive using the instructions on Moodle (tips: ensure you have 'good' internet
connection, after opening vlablive wait 5 minutes to allow time for boot-up, be patient!).
2. Open the Ladder logic using the step by step guide in the TIA Beginners guide section on
Moodle.
3. In the ladder logic, create network 1 with two n/o contacts and an output to form AND logic
4. Add network 2 with two n/o contacts and an output configured to form OR logic.
5. Test the operation of the networks.
6. Take a picture or screenshot or snipping tool pic of this.
7. Insert the image into your solutions document.
Assignment 4:

1. Access the VlabLive using the instructions on Moodle (tips: ensure you have 'good' internet
connection, after opening vlablive wait 5 minutes to allow time for boot-up, be patient!).
2. Open the Ladder logic using the step by step guide in the TIA Beginners guide section on
Moodle.
3. In the ladder logic, create network 1 with a Counter or Timer of your choice.
4. The name of the Counter or Timer must be your name.
5. Test the operation of the Counter/Timer.
6. Take a picture or screenshot or snipping tool pic of this.
7. Insert the image into your solutions document and explain the operation of the Counter or
Timer in your own words.
