About maboN

Mabon, the Autumn Equinox is the second time on the Wheel of

the year where day and night are of equal length. It is also the
second harvest where we give thanks for all that the season’s
harvest has given us and when we prepare for the darkness of
winter.

Mabon is a time for celebrating the harvest and all we have

sown. It is a time of thankfulness and gratitude for the
abundance of the harvest. Cooking meals with apples, seeds,
nuts, pumpkins, squash, grapes and corn go with the season.

The nights are becoming cooler, and there’s a chill in the air so
out in nature while you can. Go for a hike to enjoy the changing
sights and colors of the season. Look for witchy treasures like
fallen acorns, pine cones and seed pods, feathers, stones and
shells, that you can take home for your altar.

There are a lot of great projects to do this time of year including

making apple candle holders, leaf candle holders, smudge stick
crafting, making a cleansing spray, and painting feathers of
migrating birds.

It’s also a good time to give to those less fortunate than

ourselves. Clear out your pantry of canned goods that you aren’t
likely to use and donate them to a local food bank. Or, clear out
your wardrobe or closet and donate your old or excess clothing
to a charity.

divine beings
Goddesses and Gods of the harvest, Persephone and
Demeter. Hades and other gods of the underworld.

colors
Bronze, dark green, olive green, red and amber.

altar decorations
Dried lavender and rosemary, which can also be used as a
smudge stick. Fruit and nuts and leaves that are beginning to
change color.

food
Apples and pretty much anything and everything you can
make with them. Bread and grain, blackberries, nuts and nut
loaf.

maboN Ritual:
You will need:

Small items representing the elements - even better if you

have collected on your nature walks.

Tarot or Oracle Deck

Your journal

Set up your altar any way you are drawn to for the season. Set out in
front of you the elemental symbols that you have collected.

You are going to call upon the elementals and honor them for their
help with the home and finances (Earth), school and knowledge (Air),
careers and accomplishments (Fire), and emotional balance and
fruitful relationships (Water), and carry out the Tarot reading in the
circle.

Hold your hand over the representation of Earth, close your eyes and
see your financials and home flourishing. See green light flowing up
from the earth and entering your aura

While holding this energy get your Tarot or Oracle deck and draw a
card for the first position in the Tarot spread.

Move around the circle and continue the ritual in the same manner.
Change the energy colors to link with the element you are working
with:

West – Blue

North – Red

East – Yellow

Centre – Purple

Reflect on the messages given to you and say thanks to the Elements
and elementals for their blessings and guidance.

Place the elemental gifts in your sacred space for the season.
