LLIN HANG UP CAMPAIGN REPORT

SOBENDLE WARD

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Sobendle ward is one of the 6 wards in Lupane where indoor residual

spraying was last conducted in 2018 and from then no major malaria
prevention and intervention method was conducted. This was followed
up by an increase in malaria cases especially in 2019 -2020malaria pick
season. Lupane district is in malaria pre- elimination and indoor residual
spraying is no longer deemed as an effective method. LLINs are one of
the major malaria intervention option hence, PLAN international has
through NMCP sponsored the Mass LLIN distribution in the 6 wards.

OBJECTIVES
 To encourage total use of LLINs
 To find the baseline information pertaining to knowledge attitudes
and practices related to LLINs
 To institute corrective measures in case of deviations and return the
programme to course

METHODOLOGY
Random sampling of 20% of the households in which mass distribution
was carried out.. observation and a questionnaire were the data
collecting methods of choice.
A total of 138 households were sampled

HYPOTHESIS
H0: the programme was successful
H1 : the programme was not successful

Major parameters

The assessment had major parameters that measure the success of the
programme, the extent of knowledge dissemination and the practices
there of.
PARAMETER OBSERVED EXPECTED
Number of LLINs 532 532

outdoors 0 0
Number of LLINs being 447 532

Out doors 0 0
Population protected 697 867

Pregnant women 18 18
Five + 78 70
Number of LLINS still 85 0
in plastics

To effectively find out if the programme was successful in this regard the
CHI Square test will be used.

The CHI Square value is 47,49

To either accept our H0 it is important to calculate the value of our

degrees of freedom of which

Degrees of freedom = (# Rows - 1) × (# Columns - 1)

1 * 4= 4

From a Chi Square calculator it can be determined that the probability of

a Chi Square of 5.333 or larger is 0.377. Therefore, the null hypothesis
that the programme was successful cannot be rejected.

Hence we can safely conclude that the programme was successful and
we have though to work forward to improve and reduce the difference
between the expected values and the actual values by which malaria
incidence will be reduced.
