1. Definition

Reported speech is used to declaire indirect sentences or to convery words that have been
delivered by others.

2. Reported Speech 1 simple present and past tense Formula

 Simpel Present Formula

a) Positive Tense
Original Statement : S + V1s/ES + O
Reported Speech : S + Said + Told (That) + S + V2 + O
b) Negative Sentence
Original Statement : S + Does/Do + Not + V1 + O
Reported Speech : S + Said/Told (That) + S + DID + NOT + V1 + O

 Past Tense Formula

a) Positive Sentence

Original Statement : S + V2 + O

Reported Speech : S + Said/Told (That) + S + Had + V3 + O

b) Negative Sentence

Original Statement : S + Did + Not + V1 + O

a). Simpel Present :

Positive sentence : I like ice cream.

 She said (that) she liked ice cream.

Negative sentence : She doesn’t buy the dress.

She told (That) didn’t buy the dress.

b). Past Tense

Positive sentence : I went to the theatre last night.

He said he had gone to the theatre the night before.

Negative sentence : “Jane left the party early”.
