“Yes” Word Count in TV Show Program

In our country most of people enjoy watching TV. One of the TV program whose name is
Survivor is very famous in Turkey. In this project I checked and counted how many times people who
are shown say “YES” word in this program.

Firstly, for this project I watched the program 3 times to get most average outcome. My data
collection process started when the program start. People who are shown in the program said 51
times “YES” word in my first watched. In second time it increased and became 69 and in the third
time I watched again and it was 57. These numbers are lasted end of the each episode.

While I am counting the word. I thought that if I divide the entire episode time to 4-5 it
should give me more average result than each episodes average. Thus, I made a simple system that
helped me to find the most average result. So my question changed to how many times they say
“YES” in every 30 minutes.

According to this chart total average in this 3 episodes for 30 minutes is 14.75

Appropriate model for this project is Poisson distribution. So my question should be asked:
“In a famous TV show program, people say the word "yes" 15 times on average, in 30 minutes.”

λ x e− λ
Formula of Poisson Distribution:
x!
Results:
1) P(x=0) = What is the probability that “yes” word does not say in 30 minutes?

λ = 14.75(t=30 min), x = 0 so;

0 −14.75
14.75 e −14.75 −7
=e =3.92786355 x 10
0!

2) P(x=1) = What is the probability that “yes” word does say only 1 time in 30 minutes?

λ = 14.75(t=30 min), x = 1 so;

3) P(x<3) = What is the probability that “yes” word does say fewer than 3 times in 30 minutes?

λ = 14.75(t=30 min), x = 0, 1 and 2 so;

14.750 e−14. 75 + 14.751 e−14.75 + 14.752 e−14.75 = −14.75 2 −14.75

Discussion:
In my project, I worked on interesting topic. While I was calculating the result, I considered
some of factors that could affect to my outcome. These factors were time (t), average
number of data (λ) and what the question wanted in this probability(x). In a conclusion I used
formula of Poisson distribution that I learned from lessons. It helped me while calculating
the probability.
