JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary The Guidance Counselor renders guidance and counseling services to the
students of the Institute to assist them in their holistic development. In
addition, the incumbent of the position assists in the coordination of student
affairs projects and activities.

Primary Duties and The position holder shall undertake the following functions:
Responsibilities 1. Performs job functions consistent with the vision and mission statements
and the value system of the Institution.
2. Participates in the development of guidance and counseling policies,
procedures, programs, projects, activities and services in consonance with
the educational goals of the school and sees to their implementation and
periodic evaluation.
3. Prepares the annual budget of the Guidance and Testing Center.
4. Recommends the use of relevant psychological and aptitude tests and
assessment tools; Participates in the acquisition of the identified
instruments; Networks with other testing centers and similar Institutions for
the availment of assessment services.
5. Takes the lead in the development and validation of original diagnostic
instrumentation, survey designs, and research forms / tables that may be
used for assessment of students and employees of the Institution.

6. Constructs local norms and expectancy tables for externally generated


standard tests and conducts related studies emanating from research and test
data.
7. Administers, scores, and records psychological tests and evaluation
instruments included in the testing and research program for students, and
admission applicants.
8. Acts as custodian of test materials, ensuring their security and
confidentiality.
9. Acts as examiner / proctor during admission process for incoming students
and other special examinations conducted among students.
10. Coordinates with the Registrar’s office regarding entrance examination
requirements in relation to admission procedures.
11. Facilitates student evaluation of teachers; Summarizes and interprets
responses derived from the administration of the evaluation instruments.
12. Attends to referred cases of students requiring guidance and counseling
sessions; Conducts individual and group counseling sessions with students
who have personal, academic, or disciplinary concerns in the context of
developmental, preventive, or remedial approaches to help them realize
academic and personal development goals.
13. Conducts routine, in-depth, and follow-up interviews with students and
applicants for admission as referred by the school administrators and faculty
members.
14. Conducts follow-up studies on cases of clients and student protocols and
undertakes referrals to authorities concerned as may be necessary.
15. Prepares psychological reports, case studies, and profiles of students.
16. Interprets psychological test results to students, school administrators,
faculty members and parents or guardians.
17. Conducts case conferences and training programs for the administrators,
faculty members, homeroom advisers, parents / guardians, and other
significant persons to generate their cooperation in the provision of
guidance and counseling services to students.
18. Collects and maintains personal, social, academic, and vocational
preference information about each student through the use of
questionnaires, surveys and other anecdotal records and maintains these in
their individual guidance summary files to serve as bases for guidance and
counseling interventions.
19. Coordinates with the administrators and faculty members in designing and
conducting research studies to determine students’ profiles as well as their
needs and concerns, and to assess the effectiveness of the existing guidance
programs.
20. Develops, maintains and updates demographic and sociological profiles of
students’ and their families.
21. Plans and implements special programs such as the career counseling,
activities of peer facilitators, leadership programs, etc.; Develops and
implements personality enhancement and personal growth programs and
other group dynamics activities and learning sessions for students and
faculty members.
22. Disseminates guidance-related information through bulletin board postings,
newsletters, and other reading materials as well as during conferences with
the parents and faculty meetings.
23. Participates / assists in the implementation of curricular, co-curricular, and
special projects, activities, and programs of the academic units.
24. Evaluates guidance and counseling programs and activities extended to
students and undertakes revision and updating of programs and activities as
may be warranted.
25. Assists graduating students on their preparation for admission / entrance
examinations with tertiary educational Institutions.
26. Facilitates placement of the graduates in appropriate educational and
occupational institutions and positions; Provides career counseling services
to students and to alumni as may be requested.
27. Supervises the election of the student council; Acts as adviser to the student
council.
28. Approves posting of student-generated posters, streamers, and
announcements within the campus premises.
29. Establishes linkages with other educational institutions, youth welfare and
development organizations to enable the school's students to participate in
their programs such as conferences, conventions, training programs, and
development seminars and workshops, and exchange visits.
30. Develops guidelines on and coordinates the granting of awards for the
recognition of students who excel in extra-curricular activities.
31. Ensures processing of requests for issuance of certification of good moral
character and student clearance as requested by students or their parents for
endorsement to the Principal or any authorized institutional officer for
approval and signature.
32. Prepares weekly planner on activities to be undertaken and prepares reports
on actual results, outputs and accomplishments at the end of the week;
Consolidates accomplishment reports into monthly performance reports and
submits the same to the4 superiors in the organization.

33. Participates in various institutional programs and activities; Attends


training programs and learning sessions for the enhancement of
professional, technical, and personal proficiencies.
34. Performs such other duties and responsibilities analogous, germane or
related to and / or implied from the above enumeration of duties and
responsibilities.

SPECIFICATIONS

Education Completion of bachelor’s degree in psychology or education in guidance and


counseling.

Experience At least two years experience in a related field.
