which raises countless concerns regarding the role of parents in the world of

members play the most crucial role in shaping children’s characteristics and behaviors,
while others believe that other factors such as mass media platforms, television, or even
music do the job the best. [OUTLINING STATEMENT] This essay will analyze both
aforementioned viewpoints and justify my opinion on each.
[INTRODUCE VIEW 1] On the one hand, parents are supposed to be the most
prominent factor in the children’s development process. [DISCUSS VIEW 1]
Apparently, children are under constant supervision of their parents at home, thus
largely affected by the way they are nurtured. More specifically, behaviors and words of
family seniors such as parents and grandparents, even older siblings prove to be
decisive factors in determining how the child will eventually manifest in their daily
language use and social interaction behaviors. [YOUR OPINION ON VIEW 1] In my
opinion, although adults in the family exert an overwhelming influence on the children,
they are not the decisive factor. As children grow older, they become more exposed to
the world where no family members can exercise a profound impact on them. For
example, one of my classmates has traveled to Australia for his two-year tertiary
education. By doing this, he was no longer under direct guidance from his parents who
are evidently unable to observe and give advice to him the way they used to when he
was nearby.

children’s development. [DISCUSS VIEW 2] Children, especially at the stage of
adolescence and teenager, are often stubborn and individualistic. They often build for
themselves an image like no other in order to advertise their distinctive personality.

can leave a pivotal influence on them. Typical examples for this include the most
obvious ones such as opinions by celebrities on social media platforms, friends and
teachers at school, to the more superficial and minimal instruments of change like song
lyrics, or even the type of clothes their idols wear. My brother constitutes a perfect
instance of this. Ever since he followed Taylor Swift, a world-renowned singer who did
a great deal of charity, he transformed from someone who never cared for the fate of
other people regardless of advice and guidance from my family to a complete
humanitarian always lending his helping hand for those who need.

parents are fundamental in raising a child, it is other influential elements such as
friends, mass media, or music that are keynotes to the child’s development. [BROADER

so that their children will not fall short of becoming a useful human being.
