At the end of the lesson, most pupils will be able to respond imaginatively and intelligibly by creating rhymes or

C At the end of the lesson, some pupils will be able to listen and identify rhyming words correctly.

1. Show each flashcard.


I. PRE-LESSON
2. Pupils describe the animals using adjectives. E.g. a fat cat
1. Activity 1:
 Ask pupils to name animals that they know.
 Write these names on the board.
 In groups/pairs, pupils alphabetize them.
2. Activity 2:
 Provide pupils with a model sentences that rhyme about animals.
 Provide them with a list of rhyming animals if necessary.
 E.g. I don’t like red rats but I like long lizards. / I don’t like green frogs but I like

 You could do this with a rhythm, so it is a chant.

 Encourage them to create their own rhyming sentences with like/don’t like in
pairs/small groups.
 Encourage the use of but or and if suitable.
 Go around the class to check their work before they write a final draft.
 If time, have pupils draw a picture to illustrate their rhymes/chants.
 Pair/Groups present their rhymes/chants to the class.

1. Display pictures from previous lessons and sentence cards on the board.
