Project Proposal

Introduction
Project Tajurba focuses on empowering the marginalized Kathputli community, residing
in the Shadipur district of Delhi. We aim to uplift this community by utilising their skill
of puppetry by collaborating with various event planners, schools, restaurants/cafes to
showcase this lost art. We plan to showcase the puppet shows in a dynamic hybrid
business model that will be convenient for the business and consumer, alongside helping
the community to seek out its lost identity and help them stand on their own feet.

Background
Tajurba translates to experience. With this project we aim to reconnect with the
“Tajurba” they have lost out on and forgotten about. The last 2 months have been
constant hustling and we witnessed with our own eyes, how the community is barely able
to make ends meet. The absence of basic amenities such as food, water and electricity
makes life nothing short of a battle in this district. The community has been reduced to
destitute as their stream of income has been blocked for the last 1.5 years, hit severely by
the pandemic and surviving on mere donations.

Objectives
● To provide employment to the community whom we’ll help uplift.
● To eliminate poverty in this community
● To help the business we’ll be collaborating with, use this art as one of their
specialities.
● To introduce the community to an untapped market space (online world) and help
them grow in tandem with the trends.
● To preserve this form of art and re-introduce it to the contemporary world

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

● Industry, innovation & infrastructure- we are responsible for introducing the
community to the business of event planning, home decor and how they can utilise
their speciality to make themselves visible. Along with this, the hybrid business
model and the restructuring of the art of storytelling brings innovation to the
picture.
● Sustainable cities & communities- The hybrid business model helps us preserve
the sanctity of the art and the community. In the b2b model, we have collaborated
with events/wedding planners, schools, HR departments of the corporates to
exhibit this indigenous art. In the b2c model, we’ll be responsible for directly
selling kathputlis via exhibition stalls and online retail stores.
● Decent work & economic growth- With these collaborations, a continuous
stream of income and a stable job will be ensured for the community
● No poverty- With economic growth and financial stability, the community can
uplift itself and the sub-par living conditions can be mitigated, hence eliminating
poverty.
● Clean water & sanitation- We’ll also be constructing makeshift toilets, as access
to proper toilets is a privilege in this area. We’ll ensure that proper hygiene is
maintained for everyone.

Terms of Collaboration
● We’ll simply act as the intermediary in this collaboration. We’ll be responsible for
putting the business in touch with the kathputli artists.
● From thereon, it is the business’ choice as to how to use those puppets for their
growth and expansion.
● After the collaboration starts growing, and imminent growth is visible and viable,
profit sharing between the two parties can take place.
