Attitude

We come across different people, Ideas, things and situations we may form a positive or negative views
of them in our mind. Fast food, in my opinion, is unhealthy since it contains a lot of sugar and fat. It
indicates that I have a negative attitude toward junk food intake. This negative or positive evaluation of
an object is known as attitude.

People can have different attitude towards a same things or ideas. For example, Some people think
internet’s use for students as a positive thing that it help students in their studies But an another way
some people think the use of internet for students as a negative thing they think it wastes lot of time in
useless activities on the internet.

Components

Psychologists such as Rosenber, Eagley and Hovland have given a three components model of Attitude.
According to this model an Attitude has following three components: • Cognitive component • Affective
component • Behavioral component

COGNITIVE:

Cognitive component: this involves a person’s belief / knowledge about an

attitude object. For example: “I believe spiders are dangerous

Affective component: this involves a person’s feelings / emotions about the

attitude object. For example: “I am scared of spiders”

Behavioral (or conative) component: the way the attitude we have influences

on how we act or behave. For example: “I will avoid spiders and scream if I see
one”
Opinion or beliefs about attitude object (positive & negative) The cognitive component of
attitudes refers to the beliefs, thoughts, and attributes that we would associate with an object.

AFFECTIVE:

Emotions and feelings the object triggers (pos & neg) Basically, the cognitive component
is based on the information or knowledge, whereas affective component is
based on the feelings. The behavioral component reflects how the attitude
affects the way we act or behave.
BEHAVIORAL:

Reaction toward the object (pos & negative actions)

Let me come back to what I said before...

Attitude Object: EMPLOYEE

COGNITIONS: My pay is low. My supervisor is unfair.

AFFECTS: I am angry over how little I’m paid. I dislike my supervisor.

BEHAVIORS: I am going to look for another job that pays better. I am looking for another job.

TYPES OF ATTITUDE

 A positive attitude is the key to live a happy life... If you're feeling depressed and have a very
pessimistic view of how things are going. Just keep in mind that attitude is essential, and having
a positive attitude will get you through even the darkest of times.
 A negative attitude is something that every person should avoid. Generally, people with
negative attitude ignore the good things in life and only think about whether they will fail.
(Anger, Doubt, frustration)
 This is another type of attitude that is common. That mindset is a neutral one. There is no
doubt. Neither is there any kind of hope. The people generally tend to ignore the problems in
life. They wait for some other individual to take care of their problems. (Complacence,
Feeling of being disconnected,Unemotional).
 Sikken Attitude: This type of attitude is more of a negative attitude and is very destructive. It
often reflects the mind’s negativity. However, over time it is still possible to change the
direction of this attitude.

HOW CAN WE DEVELOP OUR PERSONALITY AND ATTITUDE?

 By amending or improving our character or habits.

 The more knowledge you gain the more opportunities will open up to allow you to
achieve better possibilities in career and personal growth.
 Organizational discipline is the exercise of self-control and learning to follow the best course of
action, which may not be what one desires.
