III. STORY OF THE ARTWORK

My artwork represents one of the worst situations that other people around the world
are facing. Basically, the artwork was decided to be done after watching a video by one of our
teacher suggested, which depicts the refugees crossing borders to have a better life. The artwork
is significant to me for the reason that it gave me a meaningful realization in life. We should be
thankful and grateful for the kind of life given to each one of us.
In the drawing, the refugees are on a boat, where the boat they are using is a coffin
which is a funerary box to keep a dead person. It means that crossing borders is like accepting
the risk and the possibilities that they might end up dead, just like what happened to previous
refugees, which represents the people drowning underwater, where there are female and male,
and a baby to a kid. Another feature in the drawing is the two-face person in the middle with a
laughing and a crying face, and a symbol of money in their eyes. It represents the government
that show concern to their people but acted the opposite behind their back. Behind the person
is an “X” symbol showing that this type of government should be removed and cancel because
for me they are the root of every problem.
In addition, I want this artwork to be a tool to give awareness to other people in what is
happening around the world that other people may not know. To make them realize how lucky
they are with the life given to them. Other people resolve to suicide, while other people are
finding ways to live. I hope this artwork will give them a lesson and a meaningful realization in
their life.
