LUCILITE L10
Product Information
LUCILITE L10 is an intermediate permeability product and a highly efficient beer
stabiliser

LUCILITE L10 grades are produced from high quality sodium silicate and mineral acid.
The gel is washed and milled and in the case of LUCILITE L10 blended under stringent
aseptic conditions.

The average particle size and particle size distribution of the LUCILITE L10 range is
closely controlled so as to optimise filtration and stabilisation performance. Simple
laboratory filtration tests demonstrate that the rate of filtration decreases as particle
size is reduced, however, stabilisation performance increases with a reduction in particle
size. Biocon technology allows an optimum balance to be achieved.

LUCILITE L10 also contains food grade alpha-cellulose fibers. As such they are non-
hazardous and are classified as food grade products. LUCILITE L10 grades are non-
dusting, their hydrous nature inhibiting dust formation. However, good standards of
industrial hygiene should always be observed when handling powders of this type.

ADVANTAGES

LUCILITE L10 in conjunction with regular filter aid can be used as a beer stabilising
agent. In either of these methods, LUCILITE L10 performs a dual function -
simultaneous filtration and stabilisation - which offers the following advantages :

- One step filtration and stabilisation.

- Dust free, non-crystalline, non-toxic system.
- Low abrasivity.
- Ease of disposal
- Precise filtration characteristics.
- Non-additive, not requiring beer label declaration.
- No adverse effect on flavour stability or head retention
Properties.
- Cost effective.
PACKAGING

LUCILITE L10 is available in a standard 20 kg polythene lined fibre board drums but
canbe custom packed on request.

STORAGE

LUCILITE L10 grades should be stored under dry and cool conditions in unopened
bags away from strong odours, because of their highly adsorptive nature.

Application Information

Filtration through regimes, in which LUCILITE L10 grades have been used to replace,
totally or partially, conventional filter powders, produces beers with the desired level of
clarity and colloidal stability. As pressure rates are similar to those encountered in
routine filtration work, no loss of production should arise and in general, because of the
efficiency of the LUCILITE L10 system, long shelf-life is imparted to the beer without
the use of other stabilising agents. Head retention and flavour stability are unimpared.

DOSAGE

Ideally this product should be applied in conjunction with the conventional celite initially
at 50 g/hl. The dosing of celite can subsequently be reduced by initially 40-50%

1. Slurry :
LUCILITE L10 can be made up in a 10-20% water slurry (preferably using de-areated
water if available). It can also be made up in a beer slurry. The slurry should be gently
mixed - sufficient to keep the powder in suspension.
2. Dosing :
Dosing of LUCILITE L10 should ideally be in line before the pre-filtration buffer tank
using a positive displacement pump. If there is no buffer then it can be dosed directly
in line before the filter or mixed together with the body feed.
3. Rate:
The rate of dosage is typically 50 g/hl but the brewer must adjust for different beers
and shelf-life requirements.
4. Body feed substitute:
As the product is applied prior to filtration the celite rate can be dropped by 40-50%
initially.
