South Sulawesi, on June 25, 1934. he is the fourth of eight children of Alwi Abdul Jalil Habibie

and R.A. Tuti Marini Puspowardojo. the father came from Gorontalo and the mother came from

Yogyakarta. Little Habibie was very fond of reading and had a hobby of horse riding. from these

hobbies and habits, he began to be known as a smart kid. After losing his father to a heart attack

when he was 14 years old, little Habibie and his mother and siblings decided to move to the city

of Bandung.

From an early age, Habibie had shown an interest in science, especially physics. He used

to go to school at Dago High School, Bandung, which was then continued by studying at the

Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) majoring in mechanical engineering in 1954. Habibie

only spent six months for his studies at ITB. This is because a year later he chose to continue his

education at the Rhenisch Wesfalische Tehnische Hochscule (RWTH) Aachen, Germany.

Between his studies, Habibie took the time to return to Indonesia. Apart from visiting his

father's grave in Makassar, he also took the time to visit his neighbor's house in Bandung, who

was none other than Hasri Ainun Besari's family, or Ainun Habibie's mother. The closeness of

the two of them continued to the aisle, and both of them were married on May 12, 1962. Both

were blessed with two children, namely Ilham Akbar Habibie and Thareq Kemal Habibie. after

marrying Habibie and his wife lived in Germany.

After graduating, B.J. Habibie worked for an airline company based in Hamburg,

Germany, namely Messerschmitt-Bölkow-Blohm (MBB) in 1965-1969 as Head of Research and

Development in Aircraft Structural Analysis, and later served as Head of Methods and

Technology Division in the commercial and commercial aircraft industry. military from 1969 to

1973. For his performance and credibility, he was also trusted as Vice President and Director of

Technology at MBB for the 1973-1978 period as well as as Senior Advisor in technology to the

MBB Board of Directors (1978). He is the only Asian who occupies the number two position in

this German aircraft company.

Before entering the age of 40, Habibie's career was very bright, especially in aircraft

design and construction. Habibie is like a diamond that shines in Germany. He also succeeded in

reaching an honorable position both materially and intellectually. During his work in Germany,

Habibie contributed various research results and a series of theories for the science and

technology of Thermodynamics, Construction and Aerodynamics. Some of his theoretical

formulations are known in the world of aircraft such as "Habibie Factor", "Habibie Theorem"

and "Habibie Method".

Upon Habibie's return to Indonesia, he was immediately appointed Minister of State for

Research and Technology for two decades, from 1978 to 1998. In 1995 he succeeded in initiating

an airplane-building project called the N250 Gatot Kaca which was the first aircraft made in

Indonesia. This aircraft made by the Indonesian aircraft industry (IPTN) is just one step away

from obtaining certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). However, when

IPTN was in its heyday, President Soeharto ordered the closure of all other industries due to the

1996 to 1998 monetary crisis.

After IPTN was closed, Habibie was then appointed vice president of the Republic of

Indonesia on March 14, 1998. However, the riots and political turmoil centered in Jakarta

eventually overthrew President Soeharto, who had been in effect for 23 years. After Soeharto's

resignation on May 21, 1998, Habibie was automatically appointed as the third president of the

Indonesian republic. Despite his short tenure, Habibie implemented several breakthroughs in

Indonesia, such as the anti-monopoly law, the Political Party law and the Regional Autonomy

law. His term as president ended on October 20, 1999 and he was kept by KH Abdurrahman

Wahid.

After no longer serving as president, Habibie chose to stay in Germany. However, he was

again active in the political world during the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono presidency by

establishing the Habibie Center organization.

Hasri Ainun Habibie, who died in Germany of ovarian cancer. after that Habibie died at the

Gatot Subroto Army Hospital on September 11, 2019 at 18.05 WIB due to heart failure.

residence on Jalan Patra Kuningan XIII Blok L15 / 7 No.5, Patra Kawasan Kuningan for burial.

He was then buried next to his wife, Hasri Ainun Besari, at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery.

the reason I idolize BJ. Habibie is a figure who has a firm attitude and adheres to the

principle of not being easily influenced by others, he is also great and intelligent. He is also a

motivator. said BJ. Habibie “Success does not belong to smart people. Success belongs to people

who are always trying.” This sentence teaches us that intellectual intelligence is not the only
determining factor for success. But there is another factor that is more important, namely hard

work.
