Competition and skills

Sample:
When+where+ what Two months ago, our school / company threw a party and, the
leader of the company announed that there would be a pize nominated for the best
candidate in the upcoming competition about speaking English related to historical
knowledge. .And the prize for the best person was an Iphone 7, a masterpiece of Apple
company. You know, at that time, I was very excited about this award and I wanted to
grab it immediately. However, I saw that my knowledge is just a drop into the ocean
and there are many outstanding people out there.

It was really a big challenge for me because of some reasons. Firstly, this required both
research and planning which I had never practiced before, so I started reading whatever I
could read about the period. Secondly, I was in fear of speaking in front of people
because of my terrible intonation. And that fear had led me to being sick. I had
headaches all the time, even dizzy spells or nausea. But thankfully, my best friend did
agree to help me review linguistic errors and boost my intonation level. Thirdly, it’s
about time constraint. I got to know about this competition only 20 seconds for each
question. Before the starting day I even had to burn the midnight oil to read a variety of
materials. I think this is one of the very rare times I did pay much effort like this.

Time flied, I was ready for it. I tried my best to perform as good as possible and finally
my effort was paid- off. I got the second rank. Although I was not the winner, I still got
satisfied with the result because as my buddy said I won myself.

Today I’m gonna talk about the first time my best friend taught me how to use
photoshop. When I entered university, I would see a lack of photoshop skills a huge
mistake in my life. So I was happy to have my friend teach me photoshop lessons for
free.
If my memory serves me well, when I was a sophomore at university. I did a course
related to marketing and the requirement is that I had to create a poster. However, at that
time designing was not my strong suit so I turned to my best friend for the advide and
for help. In fact, I had to bribe her some cakes, desserts and even some free math lessons
in order to get those practices.
Because I did not know the most basic things about photoshop skills so she started to
teach me from the basis such as adjust the colors, sharpen the photos or even change the
exposure…
To be honest, I am not a fast learner so it took me about 1 week to be fully equipped
with knowledge about this field and how it works. After adapting well with basic skills,
I moved to other advanced tools such as removing the blemish, reducing the wrinckles,
and even smoothing the skin,…
Finally, with the support from her, I could pass the exam with flying colors despite the
fact that I was a novice at the first time. I was on the cloud nine and even jumped for
joy when I got that score. I find photoshop exhilarating, as I could use it for my current
job such as designing banners or posters for my company.

Riding a motorbike skill

In fact, I’m not confident talking about this skill, because I haven’t mastered it. But
riding a motorbike is a highly practical skill, and any person in my country would see a
lack of riding skill a huge mistake in one’s life. I was lucky enough to have my friend
teach me motor riding lessons for free when we were studying in high school.

My friend had a scooter at that time, and I was riding a bicycle to school every day.
Figuring out my bike’s speed was only a fifth of his, I was a little pissed off and
wondered how I would feel if I could ride a motorbike. So I asked him to teach me, in
fact, I had to bribe him some cakes, candies and free math lessons in order to get those
practices.

It took me about 1 week to be fully equipped with knowledge about a motorbike and
how it works. I almost got a car crash when the motorbike suddenly stopped in the
middle of the road, which was a frightening experience. There were 2 times I fell off the
motorbike, but fortunately my body wasn’t hurt.

I now find riding a motorbike exhilarating, since I can breathe in the fresh air and the
wild wind whenever I speed up. The congestion in my country may make us appear like
aggressive and careless riders, but to me riding motorbike is a vital skill to survive and
commute.
